And I'm off the a funeral.

I only had 20 miles of diesel in and put 35 of unleaded in and drove 5 miles till the car stopped.

    What will I have damaged?

Ouch [8(] drain out refill with diesel unhook fuel pipe under the bonnet and pump out mixed fuel
I think it will be ok the but not 100% but unleaded in diesel is not as bad as diesel in unleaded car [:s]
I'd come and help but just loading a lorry sorry [8(]

^what Alan said. I take it that it will be cr diesel so potentially you are looking at a full drain, high pressure pump, rail, injectors, if it's taken it all out of the game don't expect any change out of 2000, you may have to give them even more

petrol sits on top of the diesel
so it should have run for a very short time with petrol in the system

the storeman at one of my last jobs did the same
with no ill effects other than the ribbing he got from us
we called him kevin vanpetrol for a while

If he has ran it until it's stopped there is a chance it has caused damage, with the close tolerances of high pressure pumps it doesn't take long for petrol to effectively wash it clean. I'm not saying it's definately dead but it's worth trying a drain, new fuel filter and 10l of diesel and see what happens. I've known people get away with it and I know people who havnt.

As above Ian, drain it, change the filter and fill it up with Diesel.

Hopefully it will be ok ?

The problem is that you've driven 5 miles with it, but I've known people to get away with this in the past.

Hope it all works out ok for you mate

    I think its ****ed.

I drained out minimum 20 of the 26 litres.
Removed the filter and pipes to injectors and emptied all the unleaded.
Blew through the fuel supply pipe.
Used a cal pol syringe to put diesel in all the lines.
    Fitted new filter.
Filled with diesel with a redex additive.

Turned the key and it doesn't start.

Odd thing seems to be I get no fuel from the supply pipe when it's pulled off the filter (probably non when its in the filter)

    What age galaxy us it.

The newer shape with tdci engines had a protection system built in that stopped the engine when fuel was low to stop the need for fuel bleed. How much diesels in your tank now

It's a 2008 on an 08 with the 1.8 TDCI engine. There's 70 of diesel in it now and about 3 of mixed fuel on the floor.

It's pointing down hill so might try and bump it

Being a tdci and run until it stops is not good. The high pressure fuel system on a modern common rail diesel relies on the lubrication properties of the diesel. Petrol doesnt have these properties and normally a misfuel will wear out the high pressure fuel pump. This wear creates metal particles that then get into the injectors and ruin them too.

If you get it running ok I would sell it asap.

My old man filled the T5 with 75 worth of unleaded a few years ago. Got about half a mile before it stoppedlol
Got a mate in another T5 to tow it back to the workshop and called the RAC fuel replacement truck. He sucked it all out, changed the filter and it started straight up after. Never gave us a problem after that

I've done it a few times, mostly with company cars.
Drove those cars 35k a year and they didn't miss a beat. One (y reg Ibiza?) had 20 of unleaded on an empty tank put in and stopped. We drained it, refilled with diesel and drove it another 30k. Smoked a bit and sounded like it was shatting itself for twenty or so miles but otherwise fine.
Other was another Ibiza, less than a year old. Stuck half a tank in on half a tank of diesel. Filled it with diesel and continued to drive it. Topped it every twenty or so miles for a hundred or so and it was fine. Power was down a bit for a while and a bit smokey but that was it. Did another 25k/30k in twelve months with no problems.
Fill it, get it started, tribe it until it dies.
