I have recently bought a Mk4 Golf GTI which as an intermittent problem with the central locking. Both fobs operate the central locking but occasionally the front passenger door refuses to lock or unlock. This also occurs when using the key in the drivers door lock. I'm inclined to think that it might be that the passenger door solenoid is sticky, but the odd thing is that if I'm inside the car I can use the lock switch on the driver's door control panel and it works faultlessly with this! Anyone had a similar experience and/or know what the cause/cure is?
Thanks, looks a possible but what I forgot to mention is that the car is a 2003 model - this write-up only seems to refer to cars up to 2001.
Turns out it was none of the above - the lock mechanism was jammed. Filled it full of WD40, left it a day or two and (touch wood) it seems to be working properly now. The boot lock was jammed solid but similar treatment has freed it up although I can only unlock it with the key rather than the remote. Odd though that none of the fuses had blown given that the lock motor was trying to push a jammed mechanism. Anyhoo, jobs sorted!!
ebay, somewhere around 25 to 30 is what I seem to remember paying about a year ago. Have fun fitting it! h8v
