Saw this on another forum this morning, lol For 7.5k you can have a LHD three speed auto with aircon. I have to say the car looks like it been looked after and has had money spent on it. Although there are quite a few 'styling' touches to it. 7.5k. Not sure what's going on with those front seats and rainbow rear bench, bit of a disaster if you ask me. And the description doesn't make a great deal of sence; someone doesn't know what Jetta headlights are. I think it will be hanging around for quite a while. Did I mention the price? http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/volkswagen/golf-gti-mk1-mk2/vw-golf-mk2-gti-auto-air-con-lhd-show-car--collector-quality/3817143 Mine must be worth 10k easy.
I just 99p'd mine on e-bay and got 1390. Not a single one if the 330 watchers and 30 bidders asked to come and look at it first!!!
Love the seats lol Would hate to put a Price on my own ...I have a fair idea what it would cost to replace
Just for a laugh I got a valuation from webuyanycar.com all the car info (after entering reg number) was insanely wrong final value: 75
I respect the enthusiasm and work involved in ones car, but that GTI is not what I call collector quality. The seats are hideous. I wonder what will be the market value of mine when it's all done. 91 LHD 3door, 57k original miles, overhauled ABF, digifiz, heated power recaros, power windows & mirrors, aircon, headlight washers. 10k? lol Yes, good mk2 gti's are getting harder to find by the day, but I don't consider them to be that rare. I can justify 10-20k asking price for a Rallye though.
Just bought my sleeper future classic 'show quality' motor. A 92 J plate mk3 5 door CL auto in guards red, 54K miles, full history. And it has a 'sport' button. Think I need some nitrous in the boot Jon If it was a mk1 in this condition it would be 5K plus, plus.
Im too scared to add mine up. Might make me feel ill. 4+ years of buying "bits and pieces" soon adds up. I throw all the reciepts into a folder and hide it under the wardrobe. lol Mk3 16v would be a good long term investment. Especially as weve all nicked the engines out of them. lol
There used to be a small market for buying rust free MK1's from Australia to England. I wonder if this will progress to MK2's?
They do that with Escorts from South Africa too. Second hand car prices in SA are a lot higher than here though, so it will be a while before Golfs become affordable from there. Although the way the exchange rate is currently going, you never know.
OI!! Im having a hard time finding parts as it is, leave our MK2's alone!! (Jokes and laughs out - PLEASE BUY MINE!)
Three weekends ago, I was looking at knackered 3dr Mk2 with nothing good about it except it ran. Fast forward another week and I am looking at another 3dr Mk2 found on Classic cars - this time it was less knackered but the rampant rust, oil-free motor (it had leaked out) and second-gear less gearbox helped me to walk away. Sellers seem to think that their Mk2 is a rare and desirable treasure, the reality of rust, neglect and twenty years of dodgy upgrades are irrelevant facts. However none of this really matters as the market shrinks and 'pension-pot pirates' strive to find the dream car from their youth. Tim
It doesn't help that people are breaking cars that only require a bit of tlc! As usual the dollar signs flash up in peoples eyes and all they can see is making some quick cash and not the long term effects of their actions. These cars need saving not dismantling!!!!! Alex.
People In the loop will always be able to source stuff reasonably, I've waited years for them to appreciate and think it's about time, I have a 100k 1990 16v that's as genuine as the day it left the factory, don't get me wrong I'd not sell it but it's nice to think that it rises in value.
I found this 1984 EV, no rot, 78,000 miles. Plus a silver 53,000 mile 2 door 1300 C. If they are still there what should I pay for them now? He wanted 1500 for the pair in 2013. What are they worth? Don't tell me about those scum. M??de bought Butterleys using our pension fund. My pension is now administered by the 'Pension Protection Fund' and I get 50/week having paid in well over 100,000 with company add-on payments. That's why I we are skint. I get more pension from a Woodhouse Rixson non-contributory pension, from the early 1980s. Mind you the guy was a w4nker. He drove a hairdresser's Red Ferrari and his 'copter was 5hite as well. We should have known from his greasy hand shake.
Offer him 600 for the pair.... I paid 300 for a rust free 92 3 Dr Pasadena, gti arch mouldings and quad lamp grill, interior vgc apart from needing a serious clean.
