Hi Fellas I bought a 020 5 speed from a chap in the uk many years ago and believe it is a Gemini close ratio gear set and 4.8 crown wheel and pinion anyway I finally pulled it down to rebuild it and found a diff centre I have never seen before it uses a number of roller pins that act on ramps on the end of each drive flange no gears or clutches at all does anyone know who makes this type of diff centre or had any experiences with them Cheers Gav
hello and welcome! sounds like an interesting gearbox if you want to put pics up you can upload them on an image host website and link them here, there is a function to upload pictures to the forum but this may only be available to members or once you reach a certain number of posts I cant recall. worst case you could email them to me and I'll pop them up, my email is my username at lineone.net
Sorry! I didn't intend such a short reply, I went off to find the German name for that type of diff.. and failed. One thing is for sure is that its not an LSD, its a locker Mine came out of a rallycross car, but they're popular with Berg Cup drivers too. Made by a company in Germany called Horr . It was actually Geoff Thomas that identified it for me. The bolt holes for the ring gear are M10 x 1, which means if you want to fit a different final drive you have the lovely job of boring out the holes!
That explains the lack of results! Nice bit of engineering though, although if it's a 'locker' you may want to think of shifting it on depending on what you have planned.
Maybe I shouldn't have called it a locker , its not a locker like a Detroit Locker, it's pretty unique in the way it behaves. It does appear that most of the Berg Cup mk1 golfs and polos use them and the KWL Youngtimer cars have them too. I seem to remember someone on this forum that uses one, a dutch guy who races at Zandvoort etc.. They also cost about 1500 euros!
