how do i check MAF sensor on my Vw Bora. where abouts is it located??

problem im having is there just doesn't seem to be any power when i put foot to the floor??!!! [:^(] [:x]

wot i mean by this is that although i can hear the turbo spool up....the car just doesn't seem to shift as fast as it used too...its 6 speed model if this helps!

i read somewhere that is may/could be the cause?

    any help/advice appriciated!

believe the locaion was moved one year
On the golf its on o/s behind the headlight area
bet anything it'll need more than cleaning, e.g. replacing.

would this be the most likely culprit??

any other ideas / things to check while i'm at it??!?!

are they expensive and how difficult to fit?

    thanks again

Afaic, the MAF is the most frequent failing part on the tdi.
I dont know of one that hasnt had it changed-and i know of quite a few tdi's!!
If bought spuriously, you can save up to 50% off VAG prices, e.g. around 150.
A resonably competent person should be able to fit it
Really need a vagcom check to confirm it first.
Cant think of anything obvious, maybe change fuel filter if vagcom clear?

I thought the maf was the bit after the air box, in the pipe that goes to the turbo with the cable sticking out of it!

Don't think it shows up aas a fault on vagcom either.

theres no cable goin to the maf!, just a connector!
If def shows up on the VAG diagnostic machine- ive a print out showing my maf fault!

Your Sigs too big oak_grun ;)

The Mass Air Flow sensor is the one coming off the air box, that goes into the turbo, normally got a connector with 5/6 wires coming off it.
It's an expensive item to change as a see if it works theroy, even if it's a likely suspect ;)
You need to find someone that can scan your ECU for fualt codes, it only shows as a code if it's seriously broken, other than that if will read the amount of air as a lower figure than it's getting, hence lower fueling

theres a list of VAG-Com Users in >FAQ<

I had exactly the same problem on my Passat 110TDI.

    here

Was the MAF. Cost me 170 for VW to do it. Luckily covered (mostly) by an RAC warranty.

Sorted last week and the car has been utterly transformed.

yer I have access to the parts club pricing, my mistake I paid 90 cos I had no exchange part [:$]

some of the dealers are very careful about giving those prices, the dealer by the work has no problems if I get bits deliveried, the dealer by my house have known me for years as the guy who brings all the part numbers, will ask for a bill with the trade number on, and a copy of the parts price book [:x]
