Evening Gents, I know I won't be the first to struggle with this problem: I can only wind the window up/down with the door open, what's the obvious solution (apart from fitting electric windows- which I don't want to do)... I was thinking of welding another section onto the splined end to offset the winder, although I'm not sure if i'd keep smacking it into my knee then. Any help apprechiated Cheers Pete
It's an option, although I find them flimsy and crap to be honest, especially in summer traffic! Even with them open and a hand out the window, I boil in my friends Polo with them.
Thats what i was thinking too. Plastic windows and sliders or electric windows. Or extend the handle to fit inside of the cage.
No, but I like everything on my cars to be useable and not to annoy Plastic front windows aren't an option due to where I park etc, so any alternatives would be much apprechiated
You can fit plastic windows in the original channels, and slide them up and down manually. That way you get all of the ventilation, save the weight of the winder mechanism, and can chop out the bits of inner door frame that it attaches to.
Used to have a 25mm wide thin woven nylon strap pop riveted to the bottom of the window. This passed through the gap between the inside of the window and the inside top edge of the main lower door panel. Pull to lift the window, and latch on to a cap screw head fixed to the inner door frame. Always wondered if a small catch like thsi would do the job?
Might be silly but couldn't you put a small cog where the winder is now then run a small chain to a cogged winder handle that is relocated along with the door handle to the left then covered over.
Yeah. Like the idea of using parts bin mods! You could try these cockpit ventilators? Download their catalogue, it shows how to fit window vents. http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/cockpit-ventilators-small-cvnts-1097-p.asp
The simplest solution is an allen bolt through the window frame into a hole in the poly window. I had this on my Mini Marcos, many years ago.
I like the idea of a sunroof handle Might look into extending the winder spline, and then having a quick release handle to pop on/off when required so it doesn't get in the way.
Yup - it's not ideal. You really need 2 hands to adjust the window with that setup. It is very light, simple and easy to install though - it's probably easier than opening the door to use the winder though I expect it would be possible to rig up some sort of spring loaded lifter handle and catch, with a bit of thought and fabrication.
