Here's some prototype adaptors to facilitate curved intake airhorns for the 16v DTH bodies

very nice, but I have a feeling that more bend is going to be needed....to get under the slam panel if possible - 45-60 degrees was my estimate last time I looked

the top of the cam cover is almost level with the engine in the car whereas its sloping down in your pics above

but its definately a step in the right direction

yes it might - but I have a feeling that 45 degrees isn't quite enough - its been a while since I considered this myself - on an ibiza its more like 60 degrees

the radius of the bend is also quite important since you dont want to push forwards too much before tapering down...

    its quite tricky

if the inlets can be got under the slam panel, then a shortened rad gives a really nice space for a filter right behind the grill = lots of cold air = PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER

I dont have a car in to confirm... the mk2 I had in the other week with ABF engine, 22.5 degrees down bubble took the airhorns top closer to the radiator top, but not dipping below slam panel

one thing to consider, which I have done on my ibiza is drop the cross member down, tipping the whole engines nose downward, which gains valuable space.

when I am back at the workshop later, I will put a straight edge across the rocker cover so a gauge can be made of projected angles, which people can easily check against their own installations. (remembering these DTH bodies are in several car packages, and a one fits all solution wont likely be realistic.. mk1,2,3 golfs, ibiza's, ABF.9A, KR engines etc)

maybe some cosmic power will be possible then :)

I'll take a picture of straight edge rule across rocker cover of the curved vs normal bolt on airhorns, so the difference is more comparible

    watch this space

Look forward to the update, something might need to be done if using the standard rad too. I think Mr_hillclimber dropped his on the pannel I'll find the pic

I just checked mine and it looks like Robs right, a rough measurment would mean the trumpets would be about 1" above the slam pannel

I'm using a KR miltec 4 branch on mine so it would push the manifold closer to the bulk head,
I'm still running the abf alloy sump on mine so it would push that closer to the floor too wont it?

    *cough*
there's a reason I used a ruler as a straight edge for the pictures

check what clearances you have.. there should be some clearance between mani and tunnel..
and how the sump gets close to the floor escapes me??? eh?

This picture confirms how much lower these go with the 22.5 degree spacers fitted when compared to bolt on straight 120mm airhorns
