Hi all, Looking for a bit of advice on my gf's 2002 1.4 16v Lupo as having a few issues with it. It's been sat for a few months so the battery was completely dead. Needed to move it today so jump started it from my car and it fired into life. However bizarrely the throttle seems to have stopped working so you can't rev the car and the EPC light is illuminated on the dash. Left it to warm up a bit and it sounds like the car is miss firing a bit, spluttering a little but didn't have any issues idling. Cracked vagcom out and that can't read any engine data due to 'can't sync baud rate'?! Any help appreciated, it's a bit new for me lol
Digging a little deeper it seems the Vagcom Baud rate issue may be down needing to enter a number manually?
If the ECU 'sees' a signal for the brakes applied and you press the throttle, the torque and engine speed will cut yes.
Cheers for the replies guys Funnily enough I've just read about brake light switches on another thread. That's bizarre, would something that insignificant really cut the power to the throttle?! You can hear the engine very slightly pick up when you hit the pedal. I was thinking it might be duff tps or something but haven't had time to investigate. The brake lights seemed to be operating as normal - wouldn't they be stuck on if the switch was knackered?
i could be wrong i thing the brake lights can still work and the switch still be duff it's common on mk4 golfs would be worth checking with vcds to see if it shows a fault with the switch
Cheers Mushy, yeah if I get around the baud rate sync issue I'll try scanning it again. Failing that I'll see if I can borrow my mates scanner. To be fair the switches aren't exactly a lot of money. I just find it a bit crazy that something like that could cut the throttle
Change the baud rate in the options to 9600. IIRC the brake light switch will have 4 terminals, 2 for the stop lights, other 2 for the brake signal to ECU. On as mushy16v says mk4 stuff also things like Sharan/Galaxy/Alahmbra, they have 4 pins on the stop switches and the ECU pair packs up.
i had this on a mk4 tdi non pd at work the other day, it didnt make sense and vagcom was showing anything, just ended up doing disconnecting the battery for 24hr's then it came back to life
Cheers guys, will try the VAGCOM fixes. Yeah to be fair the battery was completely dead, perhaps jumping it may not have been the best idea. Will charge the battery properly and see what happens.
