low rpm Pierburg 2e2

Discussion in 'Carburettor' started by paulvandyk688, May 12, 2014.

  1. I have a little problem with my pierburg 2e2, when engine is cold its all ok but when the engine is hot, new start on hot engine rpm is drop from 950 rpm to 750 rpm. Then start driving car and all again ok rpm goes from 750 again to 950 rpm. I dont know whats problem i think its idling and cut off valve but i am not shore. The car is golf 2 1.6 ez. need help

first off check everything as per my 2e2 faq guide then work from there, look at the rubber flange under the carb as well they can split with age

That doesn't sound like a problem to me as long as the engine keeps running. How long after a hot start does this lower idle speed persist for?

Can't see it being anything to do with the idling/over-run valve as that is either on or off, open or closed. If open car will idle on its own, if closed engine will stop unless your foot on the accelerator pedal is holding the revs up.

  4. After 10 min i start engine again hot engine start at 750 rpm dosnt going up no foot on the accelerator pedal, than i driving about 300 metar and revs come to normal 950 rpm, when cold evrithing ok waxtat works going to 1600 rpm than easy drop to 950 rpm, no problem at all.

Remind me please, manual or automatic gearbox? If automatic, does it have a 3-point unit or 4-point unit on the carburettor?

  6. automatic choke pierburg 2e2 when hot engine revs drops on the egnition

    Which type of gearbox/transmission though?

  8. manual transmision

OK, so my theory that you might have an auto gearbox and a 4-point unit on the carb, and it might be getting stuck in the wrong idle position, is a bad theory.
Sorry. I don't know how to help. Please do post back in here if you do ever find out what is going on. :)

  10. 3 point unit on hot start go lov than 8.5 mm i dont know why thanks anyway

That's useful information. You may be correct that it is something to do with the overrun/cutoff solenoid valve (or the pipes to/from it).

The fully-warmed-up idle on a 2e2 depends on air at approximately atmospheric pressure being able to get from the red-coloured hose connected to the top of the carb, through the blue one, through the overrun/cutoff valve, and into the yellow vacuum hose labelled Y in this image:

If that is partly blocked for some reason when your engine is hot, the 3-point unit will not find its correct position, but a more retracted position instead.

It will be difficult to reach it, but try to disconnect that 'Y' labelled hose from the 3-point unit before a hot-start, and see if the idle speed is nearer to 950 when it starts.

  12. Aha ok i will try tomorow and make movie

  13. hot start cant go to idle 950 but go lover 700 or 800 rpm

Have you tried disconnecting that air hose before a hot start, as suggested in post #12?

  16. yes i try like you sead to me and pistion goes all inside

That's the opposite of what I would expect. Disconnecting that hose should make it impossible for the piston to go to the shortest, fully retracted position.

Maybe it wasn't clear what I meant. Disconnect means 'remove from', maybe you blocked that hose instead?
