Hi All, in the market for a new battery. have been considering the odyssey range. Car is a fully stripped out mk3 golf VRT running 400bhp. has nothing electric so needs to start the car and power the ECU as well as what ever is plugged in to the cigarette lighter.. The cars parked in a garage with no access to electric so running a trickle charger is out the question. But potentially could remove the battery and take it indoors to charge. The car wont be run during the winter months and mainly in summer. Should i stick to a normal battery or run something else? I'm mainly considering it for the weight reduction. Never run anything but a normal battery in my cars before. All opinions and knowledge is welcome Thanks

I ran Odyssey Gel batteries in a VX 2.0L redtop powered Westfield and a John Eales powered Rover V8 Ginetta G27 - ensure your timing is good - they have a couple of goes and that's it, they don't take to churning over unless you use a bigger battery and that's when you may as well stick with what you've got. I always consider whether the weight loss will improve my times around a circuit but as I only do a few track days a year I wouldn't know if it made a difference anyway. Solar chargers are fine but disconnecting the battery should preserve its charge. I'd always recommend a battery conditioner with Odyssey batteries. They are made from rolled lead sheet not cast so the gaps between the plates is very small (hence their size to power ratio), any warping from overcharging etc and they are toast.

I think from everyone's opinion on here and on FB, probably best if i just stick with a normal battery. Thanks for the advice.
