Hi all, I had problems getting 5th so I replaced a rod and bushing as a temperary measure while a bushing kit arrives. I replaced rod number 33. Lower bushing number 35 was completely missing so I fitted a decent used one, but now I can't get 1st gear. I have this tool for alignment. My question is, how do I adjust the linkage? Should the car be in nutral or in gear? I presume it's this I need to adjust? Thanks
Yes, undo the nut on the end of the rod pictured, pop alignment tool on when gearstick in neutral, wiggle about and then do the nut back up. It's helpful if you had a second pair of hands to do the nut up whilst you hold the gear stick still in the car. If you have problems with 5th then the smaller rod may need replacement too. Thanks for the reply I have a full set of bushings and rods on the way, I just need to get it adjusted as I need the car driving for tomorrow. When the kit arrives I'll replace all the bushings and rods and align again.
I haven't had a chance to try it yet as the tool is awol, but I noticed the clamp can move a bit as you tighten it so I'm going to try clamping a No.6 armoured cable cleat up to it first.
I had trouble getting 5th because had too much play on the rod at the shifter end. Bushing was split and its an exhaust out fix.
