Hi. A guy fitted new vacuum pipes & had a clean up of a few parts on my mk1 gti & ever since it races up to around 2k revs on cold then when warm drops down to 1k? People tell me it must be vacuum leak, but I can't see it, it was on low revs actually before the new pipes..... Any ideas great appreciated
if its a paid job at a garage then you should return and say its not right theres a chance its had a vac leak for years and inexperienced folk have adjusted the engine without seeing it , now its fixed it needs retuning ?
Thanks, good idea , although just fitted a new meter head & still the same disconnected the 5th injector & same
I'm going to vote for 'help' have a read of this 16v guide: https://www.clubgti.com/forums/inde...air-and-tune-your-mk2-corrado-1-8-16v.195423/ the basic kjet checks all apply to a mk1 as its still the same basic fuel system, just the 16v has a fancy ignition ecu and idle control unit dropped on top. For basic timing mark reference use my digifant thread: https://clubgti.com/forums/index.ph...ose-and-tune-your-mk2-digifant-gti-8v.124949/ then for ignition timing it depends if you have a 1.6 or 1.8 engine the method used
dont start guessing at parts , its gets expensive very quickly and replacement parts are often worse than the old german parts needs the basic set up going through first , these arent hard to work on but you might might struggle with younger mechanics that have never seen one
Thanks for the link rubjonny & all comments. Yes indeed, I've had the CSR for over a year & can't find anyone who knows their way around the car! I've been messed around , paid out & as 1 problems fixed it causes 2 more
Squirt a small amount of easy start or carb cleaner on the pipes, if the revs pick up you've found your air leak.
great idea using easy start to find leaks, but i do not think it has air leaks as fitted & checked new pipes......
hi again chaps. i cannot find any leaks & as said has new pipes to vacuums . i wonder now if he has put them back in the wrong places!? i have 3 small vac pipes: 2 on the inlet , 1 on dizzy 1 on rear of throttle body.......what should go where????? thanks again
