My 3rd Mk2 which Started life when i got it as a 16v with a 2.0 9a block in it. Rewind quite a few years here was my first attempt at anything like this. It was a low milage AGU which i put in on the MBE / Qpeng Management. It was awesome absolutely loved it. I drove it around without a bonnet or front bumper like that for a week showing off lol...
After a couple of years as my trusty daily and 15k miles regardless of rain or shine it failed its MOT as the bonnet hinges suffered with rot at the bottom of the A pillars. So it was to my friends paint shop where i spend a good month painting it. Tearing it down... The first few days we're upsetting. Its always worse than what you first expect once you start digging deeper. But was good i was forced todo it at the time before it got beyond. Loads of Rot... Never mind we got stuck into fixing with help from friends Andy and Paul who had APM Autos Bodyshop at the time... I stripped underneath and recoated, resealed and recoated... After many hours it was nearly ready... Et voila...
It was standard K03 on the AGU so whatever Qpengs map managed todo i dont know never had it on rollers. Possibly 200 approx maybe a bit less? Was good fun in a lightweight car. However, at moment it is 0. Ill post another update explaining where im at with it at moment.
Cheers dude. Not sure if like the black gloss anymore.. think i might redo that back to a more oem matt texture.
I then took the engine out to paint the bay with big plans for the motor and turbo etc so i bought a car i had always wanted next to run instead. Audi B5 S4. This had already been messed with sporting hybrid k03s and the usual other bits with MRC tune to 378ps and 555nm... However, my plans to leave the Audi alone didnt go so well. I didnt touch the MK2 at all and ended up widebody the S4 with genuine RS4 stuff to make an RS4 widebody saloon... Which has since been replaced with a real RS4 that im well into doing a full resto on, big turbos etc should be approx 700hp...
After having originally planned to do all sorts to my AGU motor with big turbos and this and that I suddenly started to talk some sense into to myself. I've got a high output build thats costing me a fortune but also has a drive train to handle it. So i thought id just get a nice K04 setup put together and back in so i can start using it and enjoying it again rather than i just constantly sat in loads of pieces. I did a deal with a friend for a full S3 225 setup that i took out of a car for him. Its was a really wierd one as he bought it from somebody who wanted to get shut as it was burning oil. The car came with history that showed the head had been off and rebuilt (invoice for works) but noted on it was that the bores were scored. Why would you bother putting it back on the motor? Anyway i picked up the full mashings (including the transmission which might come in useful later )... Me and a friend tore it down saturday afternoon to have a little look at what was going on... K04 on it was absolutely knackered so that would of been burning oil also... The head has definately had some attention all nice and clean so that bit checks out... Short block has seen better days. Not only are the bores scored its got quite a bit of piston damage also... It wasnt catastrophic damage but im just wondering if somebody has fit a timing belt wrong or somethings gone wrong with the timing and its been opened to fix the valves in the head but theyve left the bottom half?? Pistons have definately been kissing something. I've got some S3 pistons i was thinking i might put those in the AGU block with forged rods and use this head and rest of setup.
You got some serious refurbish works going on on this thread! For the 20vT, maybe time to fit some 83mm pistons to either block along with some rods, from IE, PEC etc? The cylinder head, if it is a genuine 210/225ps part, would have shims under the exhaust springs that helps to keep valve shut under back pressure between the turbine and the valve. Thanks for sharing on here.
My pleasure no thank you for the comments.. this is exactly why i needed to share to get some input from those more knowledgeable than myself. Im a little rusty where this motor and mk2 platform are concerned. Would 83mm give me 1.9l or thereabouts? Whats the damage on a full kit about 1k? To be honest the RS4 has drained alot of the toy budget so i was wanting to keep this as simple as possible. We stripped the AGU engine as a donor for the block yesterday and was thinking to put a set of good s3 pistons back in with forged rods and leave it at that? Just thinking ahead i can hopefully get an MRC stage 1/2 map flashed by a friend who is a dealer here in Leeds negating the need to have custom tune also. So didnt want to venture to far from an 'out the box' set up if you catch my drift. I think i'd be more than happy with 280 on a simple and tidy K04 setup. Also means it would probably get done with relative ease and lower cost.. rather than turning into another project in bits for ages.
So the RS4 is nearly there. Plenty of little finishing touches and still need to crank the boost up but it will be ready to enjoy as soon as the weather starts improving again... After about 3 years of some serious work on the Audi i promised myself some time off and not to get involved with another 'Big' project. Naturally i have decided to Haldex 4x4 it and i want to put an Golf R engine in it. Syncro bits collected...
Nothing too exciting. To start I dropped the panels at the coaters to be baked and blasted to remove all the old paint / sealer etc so it will be easier to see what im playing with. They were there over christmas so have started to turn but ill clean them all up again once ive unpicked it all and about to put them in.
Went and picked up a 288mm 5x100 setup for the front. Started unpicking and prepping the panels that came out of the syncro. Took me over an hour to get one side of the tunnel sorted. Not the greatest of fun.
