I’m in need of your help. I’ve done a little test, and this is my first result. Which reads at like 0.038mm. Maybe a little less. Here are the clearances shown from the manufacturer. So what does this mean? Where do I go now? The engine has standard shells in, I believe I’ll have to double check, they are stamped Audi though. I’ve never done this before and my research doesn’t seem to be taking me anywhere... *I’m yet to measure all 5 caps, I will do this later on*
There isn’t a problem. I just don’t know if that means I just get new standard shells, or move to the next size up or whatever. I just wanted advice on that really. so I guess I just buy new standard shells, new bolts and bung it back together.
As now it is not new, it is still well under the max wear limit of 0.07. For next size shells the crank would need grinding but it is not needed. New std shells sound like a good idea.
Ah okay, that’s what I wasn’t sure on. I didn’t know if the next size shell meant a regrind or not. Marvellous. Any recommendations on brand?
They're oversized? Last few sets I got, came from either the local motor factors, or the engine recon company. No more expensive than online. I always get a Crank polished if it's out. Not sure if yours is out? I presume it's big ends? 20v? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-AUDI...ic&brand=Glyco&_trksid=p2332490.c100930.m5375
Oh everything I read was 0.25 was standard. Oops! Crank is out, I was going to do it myself, not sure how yet but can’t be that hard. If the big end is the ones with the caps into the block, then yes!
I send it Jerry Mccarthy Engine Reconditioning Big Ends are the bottom of the Conrod, Mains are the ones that bolt into the bottom of the block.
Jerry does all my engine machining. Top notch people. Sam, apparently you can polish Crank journals with fine emery paper, while spinning the crank in a lathe.
Ah yes, Jerry he’s my best mate... nope I’m out, no idea who he is! I don’t have a lathe so that’s out. Do you think it’s needed? It’s super smooth no putting or anything. it’s on each journal.
