Morning everyone When VW made these cars they filled the cavities with wax. Is there a product you can buy which can be used to do a similar job? Preferably spray as its easy to use. Cheers
Loads tbh. Waxoyl is the best known old name, Wurth do one, as do 3m, and Bilthamber gets great reviews. I'm actually getting done of their Dynax UB and S50 myself.
The original stuff is thick, i used wurth but did not came with extension for cavities and is very thin until it boils dry.
I've used waxoyl, dinitrol and even old used ep 80/90 gear oil back when I used to work in a garage in the 80s the latter was a bit smelly and not very environmently friendly by today's standards but all worked pretty well. This was used on my old Fiat 131 Supermirafiori and when I sold it 6 years later it still didn't need welding.
No mean feat to stop the rot on Fiats of that era - my Dad had a 127, 131,132 and Ritmo (Strada) and dear lord the rate at which they became porous. It was after the run of Fiats that I convinced him to buy a Mk2 GTI

Wasnt the best way to remove the engine in a fiat to hold on to roof gutters and shake car violently?
Mechanically those 131's, 132's and strada tc's were pretty tough and handled well and with the lampredi twin cam went very well it was just the recycled Russian steel that was the problem. A friend of the family was an mot tester back then and he swore by the old used oil in the doors and box sections and he was right.
Well I won't lie and rust aside, I'm a big fan of Italian cars (Alfa Romeo, Lancia & Fiat), I had two Alfa's myself (33 & 155) and the 2.0l twin spark in the 155 was one of the best engines I ever came across. The engines were generally not the problem it was everything else that was strapped on to them. Case in point with the 155 was I couldn't keep parking light bulbs drawn to it - it would blow them every 3-4 weeks without fail - no other bulbs were affected and I never got to the bottom of it. I also used to get intermittent lights coming up on the dash and the only way I could get it sorted was removing chunks of the loom and several connectors and replacing them with bits from another 155 There were always those nagging questions when you owned one - Would it stay going? Would something fall off? Would it go up in flames? Would you fall through the floor while driving it? - All very important questions when you have an Italian thoroughbred in the stable
I ran a Delta Integrale as a daily for a year. Only ever had one issue with it, a wire that got pinched when I adjusted the steering height one day outside the house. We've 8 classic Italians at home.
Well fair play for having eight of them - I had only one at a time and they tested me on and off I can tell you and they were by no means abused in my ownership
