I couldn't agree with you more - to this day I'm fascinated and still a big fan of cars that were common when I was growing up - the Mk2 golf being one of them but by no means the only one
I fitted the upgraded headlight wiring loom this week along with angle eye headlights and put it through it’s first U.K. MoT and it passed with no advisories.
Do you get any say in the UK plate that gets assigned? Or could you buy one first and ha e that put into it?
no unfortunately DVLA send you the V5 with a random selected plate then if I want to change it I have to then find and pay for another one. I was hoping for an option on that but they don’t allow it
So today I ordered a new D shaped steering wheel and some front seat covers to keep the seats in tip top condition. When they all arrive I’ll update with pics. Next is new suspension and set of new rims
Yeah I had to do that just for the mot. I’ll sort it out properly once i can find some replacement clocks
Speedo looks like back in the 70s you used to get the little square stickers to go on the radio to show where stations were. I have spare clocks if want speedo face, I can post pic later if any use.
My registration document arrived today so I finally managed get my plates ordered and insure the car! I’ll update with pics once they have arrived and been fitted. Next is wheels and suspension, with so many options for the suspension I’m more leaning towards just replacing the shocks and springs with a 60mm kit rather than coilovers just as they are easier and less hassle. From previous experience I remember them seizing up from the amount of dirt there exposed to over the years. What’s everyone’s preferred choice when it comes to a quality suspension kit??
Got the plates today and took it out for the first run. Went BP and was chased down by a fellow MK2’er and his was immaculate, looked fantastic, we had a good chat a long with bringing a lot of attention. Oh I’ve missed these days...... many more to come!
Call me old fashioned but a (- 60mm kit) will shake your teeth out and result in the car scraping over all sorts of things. If you're going to drop it I would recommend no more that -30mm and even at that well you know the rest. You're call at the end of the day - if I was back in Ireland I'd post you the Bilstein kit that I pulled out of my 8V for free - it was dreadful and I replaced it with a standard 16v setup.
