Great bit of work, will be following. If it makes you feel any better, i reckon mine is worse! The difference is, i dont know how to weld! I don't have a thread on here, but might throw one together. I do have some pics on instagram mainly for my own reference - 1990_gti_8v_resto. Did you make the rotisserie yourself? I'm looking to have one made here in the next few days as the postage charges to NI are making them pretty expensive. Do you have any measurements for pivot height etc for yours? I'm assuming in goes full 360?
Excellent work mate. Fair play taking it on, most would have scrapped it and found a better shell. As for getting the vw undercoat off in tight corners you need a heat gun some flat bladed screwdrivers and a handheld brass wire brush. Looking forward to future updates.
Cheers, I'd really appreciate that. The height and making sure I have clearance is the main thing I guess. Looking to make one which can be raised and lowered using threaded bar if you've seen them? Easier to get up off current axle stands and that. That sounds like a great reason to have one moral has been low a few times already. So much rust!
Fair play with this, it really isn’t the cleanest shell is it but will be extremely solid when your done. Keep up the good work!
Great progress as usual! Really getting there now. How do you find the butt weld clamps out of interest?
Really impressive! And definitely made the right choice with the BH stuff. I saw a few posts ago you mentioned about the digital clocks. There's a guy on FB as mentioned that's doing a retrofit kit for Tiguan 2 clocks into a MK2 in conjunction with van der veer engineering (the haldex guy). Was estimated at around £1700 last time I checked which is mad.
I've seen a couple of used dashes up for sale fairly cheap so I'm going to have a play when I've got my build done. Getting them to display information shouldn't be too bad its the component protection that I'm unsure of. And the fact the Odometer can only be increased if you're bothered about that.
Good progress. You've been spending! Tbh unless you spend a lot on the likes of 3m, it'll be hard to replicate the OEM finish. I'm going to try Gravi HEL Armor Skin, I'm told it's damn near as good as Raptor and a lot cheaper, plus you can buy a tintable version.
