Hi All. I have a 91 Mk2 GTi with a sunroof and when I bought it the wind defector and arms for the sunroof were missing. So after 7 years I have finally got round to fitting one. Before I fitted the wind defector the sunroof open and closed without any issues but now with it fitted when I try to close the sunroof it jams and stop when it comes in contact with the arms. The sunroof sit flush with the roof when it’s closed so it’s not like it’s sitting low when it’s shut. I’ve also noticed on each side there is a rectangular block (maybe a guide) it is this block that hits the bottom of the arms and jams. I’m guessing this block should make contact with the arms to push them down? has anyone else had the same problem? Does this sound like something needs adjusting? I’ve watched a couple of YouTube videos and looked in my Haynes manual but I’m still stumped to as why it won’t close. I’ll try and post a couple of pictures tomorrow when it’s stopped raining. TIA Matt
Are the arms on the correct side, I think I put mine on wrong to start with. I'll pop and get a pic as sounds like you didn't have any reference on your car originally Drivers side (rhd) And passenger. Arm points downward, sure I put them the other way first of all as they had rotten away and ploughed into it.
I think you need to re-initialise to reset the ATS. I'm not sure for (old) VW's, but normally it is pressing and holding a button for 10+ seconds, and then continuesly through the movement(s).
Ah, I was already wondering, that's quite early for electrically operated sunroofs I got on the wrong track with this sentence: That's usually due to ATS and needs to be re-learned Now I also understand @PhilRyder 's remark.
Looks the same over here. Yellow mark is the pad that pushes the arm down. Do you have some grease on the arms?
I'm thinking its the deflector. look at the left side, where the arm attaches looks pretty rotten and bent away from the flap. I'd go and take a pic of mine but its off at my parents house
Hi All Thanks for all you help and pictures I’ve managed to get it sorted with your help. It turns out it was only jamming on one side and when I compared it to the other side I could see the plastic block was lower than the other side I managed to push it on the peg further and I’ve cleaned it all up and given it a little lubrication and now it operates smoothly. I remember when I bought the car it just had a new sunroof seal fitted and I’m guessing the person might have changed these blocks too because they look new and don’t have and contact marks on them. thanks again for your guys it’s much appreciated.
