Has anyone here replaced the plastic set up on an early vw carb (1.1/1.3/1.6) for a nice shiney bolt on uprated air filter box?

What improvements did you notice or any problems you had? (Not looking for performance increase-just a smoother, more reponsive drive!)

Does it create any more 'noise' as with induction kits on injection cars?

Bar K&N, what other companies make these and does anyone know of any cheap units around?

more noise, dont thin kany more power, and more carb icing :)
Can get the same effect by putting some holes in the filter side of the airbox.

Not worth the money IMO :)

not many people would recommend the bolt on carb as it ices up easily. especially now and the coming winter months [8(]

i just put a k&n panel air filter in mine and it improved acceleration.

For 25 are you sure the K&N's not a panel filter also?

    Though bolt-on's were 60-70.

dont even think about putting a bolt on on a 2e2 it will ice up even when it is mild never mind when it is cold just get a k&n panel and take the air intake out of the wing and extend it to get a nice cold air flow from under the bumper or somewhere ;)

Might go for it, try for a while anyway - wouldn't have bothered for 60odd but 25's a bit different :)

Always wanted to see a nice uncluttered engine bay in my dub - know the drawbacks of induction kits/heatsoak etc but always fancied one!! [:$]

    Hi gents,

My OE plastikk housing for the 1.6 is gone to bits. Ideally I'd want to get a RP style filter house and inlet routing, but not an easy task with the Pierburg "interface".

Hiw much an issue is the heat dissipation if running an open KN 56-9159 filter? Is quite the cost of EUR 130 or so...

the main thing with a bolt on filter is you'll probably suffer terribly from carb icing, the 2e2 carbs are very prone to it. just get another original airbox and keep it standard, there is absolutely no benefit to either an RP style airbox setup or a bolt on intake
