I wonder if anyone could help me find a decent set of pads for my Girling 256mm MK2 Golf GTi 16v calipers. The car is fast road only. I wanted Mintex M1144 pads but it appears they are not available in 256mm fitment. I do have G60 calipers and discs but I believe they will not fit 15" Ronal turbos on a MK1. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Rich
I spoke to my engine builder about this the other day as I have deleted the servos on my BMW and need pads with more grip. He runs several race cars for himself and others. I suggested EBC green stuff but he said he didn’t like them because they take too long to warm up. He said he uses Ferodo DS on his cars. That’s what I’m going to try, I need to order them today.
Ah thanks I didn't realise that Ferodo did a road based pad which has EC90 classification. Just had a look on their site and found this: https://www.ferodoracing.com/ecat/code-compound/car-tuning/brake-pads/FDS774 Would that be the correct one for OE part number 1HM-698-151/A
I'd have to disagree with Phil, EBC greenstuff were worse for me than a standard pad, really really awful. Id recommend Ferodo Ds2500. great on the road and fast drivng.
Unfortunately DS2500 are not road legal but the ds performance ones are which I mentioned above. From Ferodo website: WARNING: DS2500 DOES NOT HAVE R90 CERTIFICATION AND SO IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR ROAD USE IN THOSE COUNTRIES WHICH REQUIRE R90
Strictly speaking, they arent... however they work perfectly fine from cold. But its obviously up to you what you wish to use.
Would anyone answer that on a public forum . I have an R32 engine, 9" servo, 22mm master cylinder and South African brake bar with Zimmerman discs and Meyle pads. Can't I treat her to some decent pads .
You can do whatever the hell you want with it, it's your car. I just find it strange/ironic that you're concerned that a certain type of brake pad will invalidate your insurance when you (allegedly) are going to be driving the shite out of it on public roads I presume or are you going to track it?
That's your assumption and why bother to comment. I have a high performance engine. Why shouldn't the brakes match. It's common knowledge that ds2500 pads are for racing and track and the paragraph I found was on the Ferodo website. All I wanted was advice on a performance pad for my car. I honestly can't believe how toxic your response is. I thought this was a friendly club.
Right let me put you straight on a few things: 1. This is a friendly club. 2. If you consider my comments to be toxic then I would respectfully suggest this may not be the place for you and perhaps you should move along. 3. I have no history of offending anyone to date in my many years being a member (you are the first it appears) - I'm a straight shooter that's all. 4. I will leave it at that and I won't say another word to you going forward and apologies if I hurt your feelings.
How condescending, putting me straight. I've been a member almost as long as you. I suggest that you don't put your nose in to other peoples posts if you have nothing meaningful to say. Everyone else has been really helpful.
