Hi Bill Ive been looking through posts about the abf, and read that essthree said it would be worth speaking to you about getting c.268* inlet cam. Any ideas on what the approximate cost would be to supply one? Thanks
CatCams have some mild duration but higher lift cams eg: 352.50 (pair) 7661206 262 / 261 226 / 221 11.60 / 11.20mm 1.35 / 1.05mm O.E.M. HYDR: sport Price is plus carriage and vat regards bill
right - i have reply from catcams. there are 3 profile sets which they say are ok with Motronic ecu (ABF) they are :- 7661206 7661207 7661210 Full sets are 352.46+vat/pair Best advise is choose a pair not a single inlet. they can supply 'an inlet' but this is not advised as you will be on your own with respect to cam to cam timing and setup etc sinlge price is 1/2 the above price specs from catcams site for those are below partnr. duration duration maximum lift lift at TDC parts application [data link] [0.1mm+cl] [1.0mm+cl] [cl=0] [cl=0] [-] (TURBO) 7661207 261 / 261 221 / 221 11.20 / 11.20mm 1.05 / 1.05mm O.E.M. HYDR: sport 7661206 262 / 261 226 / 221 11.60 / 11.20mm 1.35 / 1.05mm O.E.M. HYDR: sport 7661210 266 / 262 228 / 229 10.90 / 10.90mm 1.45 / 1.40mm O.E.M. HYDR: sport regards bill
would these cam profiles work effectively in a Mk2 golf that has an ABF engine running on K-Jet or could i go more lairy? i don't want to lose all torque and drivability but i want more top end for track and drag use at same time. I am however new to all this tuning stuff so don't really understand how lairy a 262/261 is?
you could go more lairy yes, as you dont have lambda control and ecu trying to get an afr it wont achieve given its lousy controls. generally, they move power band upwards the lairier you go, unless you have high compression
ah ok. sound very simple when you put it like that. for now it'll be restricted to a port and polish on the head and some cams. can you suggest a good profile that works from say 3k upwards? don't mind it a little lump low down but i don't want to have a vtec type engine that flat below 5k or needing pocketed pistons or solid lifters etc...(that last bit was quoted from a friend who claims to know this stuff so might be total twaddle!!)lol
i have never yet seen a 16v VW motor have anything than a dip/climb in power from 4k onwards, so from 3k up is unlikely, 4k up more likely. I run my 20v turbo motor to 9000rpm these days. still hydro's (asking a lot of them yes, but with my good 100% shear stable oil, touch wood, they will survive the brief moments its goes that high) I would hovver between these two I think.. 7661210 266 / 262 228 / 229 10.90 / 10.90mm 1.45 / 1.40mm O.E.M. HYDR: sport 7661230 266 / 257 238 / 220 11.55 / 10.15mm 2.15 / 0.30mm O.E.M. HYDR: rally & cross regards bill
I think its the lift on overlap that screws up digifant ecu's / lambda a 260 cam with plenty of lift (11.2mm) with 1.05mm on overlap sounds like the way to go for an abf on digi to me I run cat cams in my race valver and can vouch for their quality - not had a problem with them in over 3yrs
I don't think it's the lambda mis-reading that causes this issue. I believe it's the MAP sensor being upset by the pulses that causes the problem. Hence using aftermarket management that don't rely on MAP sensor for idle load readings work fine as you just dial in the timing/fuel. Gurds
its the motronic ecu which has the wobbly. and idle emissions lambda wanders about and struggles to idle apparently. cause and effect.. yea your right, map is determining fueling which lambda itself is feeding back to try and control to.. a control loop which is out of control in reality if too "lumpy" a cam installed for it. Only lumpy cos motronic makes it.. standalone using rpm vs throttle angle would not suffer this map pulses would do that yes, but *could* be very much readuced or even eliminated by isolating the manifold vacuum signal into a larger chamber/cylinder, with a very small outlet retrictor to the motronics map sensor feed. it wont see pulses in this manner. just a thought
as above a bit of a newbie to all of this - can you tell me the quoted power band on those cam specs above?
