The idler pulley on my 16v is totally borked. I've just rang VW and the part is now obsolete, what options do I have? Is there a similar idler pulley on the Corrado or am I going to have to change to a mk3 alternator/serpentine belt stuff? Thanks, oh its got PAS too.
Hi, I have the same problem myself, makes the engine sound like a bag of bolts! Have tried euro, gsf and a few vag specialists with no luck. Will have to settle for a used one if I dont find one soon. Good luck with your hunt!
corrado kr & 9a will have what you want, either straight swap or the alternative 16v pulley setup which doesnt use a slipper wheel. if you get the other setup nick all the pulleys off it then you know you have what you need. If it was me I'd go for the MK3 setup as you say, much better and easier to get parts for. You can get everything you need from a 1.8-2.0 8v or 16v MK3, just the crank pulley that is 16v specific. you need: alternator alternator bracket pas pump pas brackets all the fixings you undo to get them above off belts to suit the above note there are 3 alternator belts available based on the year/model. MK3 A/C setup will also work, just you'll need to get a non-a/c waterpump pulley. Everything else is the same though
Well i got the three allen head bolts out but can't get the bugger off :/ Gonna have a look to see if I can get the newer bits locally for a reasonable amount. Thanks for the help
Eventually got it off, its a strange thing. Its worn on the faces between the pulley and the centre, not the bearing, it wobbles from side to side. Think I can probably get a spacer machined up. Will let you know how I get on
Right I couldn't get a spacer machined up as its gonna be too small I've just picked up a pulley from a Corrado 9a, it's the same size as the slip pulley of mine but just pressed metal. Now the problem I have is that the offset is wrong, can anyone tell me if there are different shaft sizes on the water pump between a KR and a 9A Thanks
nope waterpumps all the same, you'll need all the other pulleys off the 9a to bring it back into line.
I've made a spacer for the water pump pulley, hope it works. Cant imagine a 9a crank pulley being cheap from VW, ABF one is 300! I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow, cheers
It lives! Made a spacer from the old slip pulley centre, put the new 9a water pump pulley and the old KR PAS pulley back on with the new belts and its working great. Altho I tightened the belts up a bit too tight and it sounded like a G60 LOL!
