Can anybody tell me the size of fuse needed to protect the pump?

Any info on the pump case, such as the watts? If so, divide that by 12 (volts) to get the amperage draw. so for example, if it said 60w, 60/12 = 5 , 5 amps needed to run it, so fit the next nearest higher amp fuse, eg a 7.5 amp

Fuse only protects the wiring, so I would fit one 2* running current

Sadly the body of the pump doesn't give a wattage :-( I have had a good scan of the engine wiring diagram that I have but the pump seems to be on some other part of the loom.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest a 10a fuse. Going on pumps I see in work . You could try a 5 first, if it blows, up to a 7.5 and so on

Whack some 12V across it and measure the current

What John said, but do it while it's pumping water , not dry .
