So, my beloved MK2 is starting to show it's age a bit... [:^(]

There are a number of small rust spots (less that the size of a 5p coin) on the bottom sections of the doors.

What is the best way to deal with them? I guess they'll need sanding and treating? However, this will leave me with a spotty car [:s] .Is there some other magic treatment that I could use?

    Cheers

theres no magic treatment im affraid

dremel away at the scab until its clean metal , keep going at the pits until its all clean

then some zinc or etch primer , fill any pits so its flat , prime again and then paint

if theres so many spots it looks bad then you will have to consider painting the whole panels..but at least the touch ins will slow the rot a bit

    Do you have any pics?

Is it just surface scabs, or is it pitted badly?

No pics at the moment. However, they're only surface scabs. I just don't want a spotty car [8(] It's metallic green, so no chance to patch it up without respraying the whole panels.

Oh well. I may post a few pics.

Best to deal with it now while it is only surface rust. Leave it and it WILL spread cost more time and money in the long run...

As said, if it just surface rust, get it sorted as it will soon start pitting. Even if you remove and cover with hammerite untill you get a respray it will help for the short term.
