why does the rpm goes up and down when engine starts?

    why does the rpm goes up and down when engine starts but it normalizes after it gets its temperature?
    i need answers please!

    Idle Switch ?

    I don't have a MK3 but it might be the idle value/switch as said above

    I have an 87 GTI 8v which I know isn't a MK2 but mine does for a few seconds before settling, I've also experienced starting issues and poor running when hot which I suspect is the idle value
