i would be interested in a 2.5" system with single tailpipe for a mk2 that is having a AUQ engine in it with Qpeng downpipe. Any ideas on cost and can you do me some mock up pics of tailpipe size please. the reason i want single is because its on a small bumper driver so want it fairly OEM and not sure twin pipes suit the small bumper cut out thanks
Hi Ditchyboy, I was tempted to make the small bumper option with a single pipe. I saw one recently that looked good but it had a danger of being fashionable, rather than something that you would be happy with for years to come. Leave it with me and I'll see what I can do I've got a feeling that it's probably going to look better on a mk1 though.
Haha even the 2.5" looks small I don't know if that's because they're not rolled so the tip walls look thinner? Is outward rolling out of fashion now? I think it can look pretty good on single exits but I don't think I've ever seen a twin-exit with outward rolled tips. Is the 3" tip box you pictured a Jetex? It looks okay (is what I have now) and fills the the recess almost perfectly.
It depends what side of bed I've fallen out of when I think about these. Outward rolled tips are far and few between. More of a bike thing, I think?? In real life, the 2.5" straight cut thick wall look right. They're the only thing that we keep coming back to. Not too big, not too small but classic. The 3" rolled tips on the black car are on an ebay universal special. It was specially adapted with a ball pin hammer to fit the car. Fancy showing us yours
Here you go: I actually have no idea what size the tips are, but it's a regular Jetex box. Mild steel.
thegave- They look like 2.5" from that angle. I think that we've reached a stage where we all agree that anything smaller than 2.5" won't be big enough? Ditchyboy- I've got a solution for the single exit option. When we make the jig for the back boxes we'll take a few pictures of single pipe options which will also work with the jig.
Here is my twin 3 inch back box - Imo, anything below 3inch looks too small on a big bumper Mk2. Mine seem to fill the bumper cut out nicely Im currently looking for a new system for mine, as the baffles have gone, so will be keeping an eye on this thread.
Hi Rich, thanks for the picture. Would you mind checking the measurement of those. They look more like 3.5" from here? Vdubb_Matt- Interest noted thegave- Mint
Hi guys, Just thought id try and help out abit! Heres my old Supersprint exhaust, bought it in Y2K and, is still on my car now! I cant even remember what size the old SS exhaust is?!? Is it twin 2.5? Couple of pictures This pic courtesy of Stella at Curby sep 2011 For me thats about perfect for the Mk2 Bumper!!
Thanks Richard, you would think that I would be able to do this as my specialist subject on mastermind by now. The supersprint system that Pluginz has on his looks good. It looks like it belongs with the car. We're still on course for doing these in the first couple of weeks of December, so there's not long to go now.
Have a look at these. I think that we're on to something here This is a 3" rolled in tip These are 2.75" straight cut Here's a 2.75" pipe stood on the 3" rolled tip The problem with the rolled in tip is that it runs the risk of sounding a bit fluffy. A non rolled 3" tip looks too sharp without the roll but the 2.75" pulls it off nicely. As you can see from the above picture, the 2.75" sits on the roll of the 3" so there's very little in it, but the 2.75" looks like it belongs to the car. We're trying to achieve a look that you could be forgiven for thinking that it was the factory upgrade option and the 2.75" seems to be ticking all of the boxes so far
