    Hey everyone
I decided to register to this site since there isn't much activity on the danish MK2 websites :)

I got a Golf Mk2 1.6 75bph (EZ) and I want a new camshaft, but I can't really decide which one to pick.
I've heard that a 268 degree is a waste of money but the choice is either a 272 or 276 degree.

I also want a new manifold and hopefully I can get between 85 - 100 HP with the Weber 32/34

    What can you recommend? :)

Would you be better off by putting a 1.8 in and gaining cc first?

Agree, Unless you are trying to stay in class the torque benefits of the 1.8 and cheap supply make it a no brainer
Then at a later date you can put a cam in that, and the longer stroke will help you with holding a bigger cam as well

1595's rev nicely. The limit on the carb is the choke size. Too small and you wont get the flow at high rpm.
So the more cam you run the more you push the power up the rev range.
285, say, may be too much for a small downdraft choked carb.
270, 276 would appear to me to be about right, but I'm no expert
    hope this is helpful

Funny enough I was going to ask the same question as I have the same engine in my golf. Don't want to change the engine as it has serious low mileage. I'm planning on changing the carb from the dmtl that I currently have as it's developed a problem which I can't fix (been serviced 3 times with new parts). So going twin 40s in the next few months and will be fitting a 4-1 header (heat wrapped) next month (hopefully)

i would get a gti head and cam, crank from a 1.8 too, stick that lot in with the four branch(more flow to start with) then when you do the cam you will make better use of it, as it will be choked quite abit by the 1.6 unit

Does the mk3 8v gti camshaft fit the 1.6? Does it bring any performance upgrade?

Before you dive in trying to fit a longer stroke 1800 crank, think that the same pistons will end up further up the bore. The 1800 pistons
are likely to have the gudgeon pin centre closer to the top of the piston.

Been dummy building my race ABF today with new 13:1 Wossners which stick 1/8" above the top of the block! Some fettling needed in the KR combustion
chambers to get the pistons to turn past TDC.....

Yes but the latest poster is only asking about putting in a GTi camshaft in a 1600 , he’s also posted a new thread asking the same question .
