    Hello all,

Been lurking around the site for a few months and decided to put my project progress together. The Golf was a bit of an impulse buy as it was in London and was a bit bored of the mk5 GTI that didn't get used much so wanted something a bit more exciting. I'm a bit of a sucker for sad cases that need some TLC so knowing this needed a lot of love I decided to go for it.

    Spec:
Late GTI 8v model - Register Feb 1992
    ABF engine conversion
    Widetrack set up
    Rainbow interior

First thing I went about was removing the widetrack/mk3 bits and returning it back to standard. I picked up a job lot from a member which was all powder-coated and poly-bushed. Unfortunately due to space restraints I handed the install over to a garage to do. New disc pads and bearings gone in too so its now like new.

Changed a few other bits including:
    - Brand new grill that someone had stored since 89
    - Original indicators in the front bumper
    - Plenty of smaller bits around the car.

List of bits for the next few months:
    - Heater Matrix went pop so need that sorted soon
    - Swap out coilovers for APs. The current FKs are crap.
    - Swap out the rainbow interior for the original red ultra interior.
    - Bodywork - full respray and removal of the dreaded filler cap rust
    - Usual headliner repair
    - New exhaust system for a freshen up
    - Need to get around to installing my front fogs too

I had been toying with the idea of a 3.2 conversion...

    Any comments welcome!

    Damien

For the exhaust, I recommend Trackslag. Fantastic quality and sound the business!

Nice looking little car, keep it up :)

Nice car, good choice. If you manage to do the headlining I'd be keen to hear the route you take as I need to do mine

I've managed to change the heater matrix with a lot of swearing and regret of taking it on!
Swapped out interior minus the doorcards. Need to try sort my central locking first.

Picked up some MIM 1900 from Ebay for cheap so have to get these painted and tyres. Just need to decide what colour..

Left the car in with Darren at VW Enterprise for a service and few bits tidied up, nice clean engine bay.

While it was there I got the APs installed which is a great upgrade.
Finally got it out after that for a spin and a wash.

    Next up:
    Wheels refurbed and tyres
    Bodywork
    Exhaust

I periodically remind myself to look out for a set of MIMs and never find any. Given your find I must try harder

Many thanks for letting me know. I just had a lol at threads on fitting et13 to a Mk2 and head kicked in over heart. Would look great but I suspect drive ability would suffer

Lovely looking car - I would recommend a Jetex exhaust if you're into something a little more OEM looking and don't want a full blown assault on your eardrums or general sanity.

    Happy New Year all!!

Been fairly quiet lately since I bought this....

Picked up a nice Christmas present just before Christmas, can't wait to get tyres and get them fitted.

Hopefully get her in for bodywork at the end of the month to get that going before the good weather gets back
