Hello peeps. Referring to my '91 8v Mk2.

Just in the last few days, not every time, but maybe 50% of times when I'm releasing the clutch pedal there's a pronounced click as it travels the last 5mm (guessed dimension).

It sounds like it might be something worn and jumpy in the pedal box, but its too rainy to investigate right now. It has a non-self-adjusting cable if that makes any odds.

    Ring any bells with anyone?

    Ta. :)

There are 2 plastic 'things' between the pedal bow and pedal. Could one of those be worn out?

yeah theres like an over-centre spring under there, maybe its gone out of alignment or the retaining clip come loose. does it definitly sound like its in the footwell area as when i first got my GTI it had 2 biting points thanks to a knackered clutch with a bad click between them

On my old 1.6 I didnt even have the over-centre spring, I suspect it may only be needed for auto adjust clutch cables

Sounds very footwellish, almost feels/sounds like the pedal rubber is somehow clicking under the ball of my foot, but I'm not sure that's possible. I'll try some different footwear if I can't see anything in/around the pedal.

    Cheers fellas.

Haven't test driven yet to check, but I think this nearly completely undone nut was the problem:

It's only the stop to set the resting pedal height, don't think it's critical. If it's loose it'll move about and make a noise though.

its part 16a, im not sure about 16b either? may be early or part of cruise system perhaps i dont recognise it mine certainly hasnt got one and all the pics i can find just show that hole with some tape over it.

cant find a decent one with pedal stop shown either! I dont have a dash undertray on mine right now so will try to get a pic. but tbh, you could just leave yours as is if it works ok why mess! VW heritage have them in stock though

edit: best i can find, if you squint you can just about see it just above where your bolty thing is:

Thanks John. Think I'm just going to pop a Nyloc nut on there, or a drop of threadlock, for now, until I find a secondhand one of 171721232.
