Hi All, been ages since I’ve been on the forum and it feels a bit like rediscovering religion at a time of need .

I’ve just been recovered home after hearing strange rattling and finding coolant leakage on my recently bought (last Sunday) 1.6 FSI A2.

Am I looking at bent valves? And am I right I thinking the easiest way to get back on the road is to refit another complete head, water pump and timing kit?

At a minimum replace the bent valves.
Those engines are notorious for making garages look very bad!

I bought a complete engine from salvage so I’ll renew Cambelt, water pump etc on that before swapping it. I can then take my time Rebuilding the existing head or just sell it on. I’ve never actually reseated new valves etc so could be a good opportunity to learn.

Can the 1.6 FSI be fettled with or is it not worth while?

Any engine can be fettled with, customising the character.
