Any one else had a message from 'maxspeedingrods'?

I had a DM on Instagram saying basically that they liked my postings on here and would I like to have and review any of their products in my own project.

Just wondered if anyone else has had similar contact?

Sadly not, but I’ll take a set for my 20v ;)

I’ve heard overall good reviews of them tbh

It was years ago when Nige and Gurds had their issues, mind you.

I wouldn’t be too concerned about fitting them, I’m going to put a set into my temporary engine

With Nige, iirc it was knock off arp style rod bolts caused his engine failure.

maxspeedingrods may not be the same brand but you can bet your bottom dollar that they're the same thing.

I believe its the 19mm wrist pin Max speeding rods that have the issues, 20mm version absolutely fine if your just tickling above oem rod failure figures, I bought a set when they had a good offer on (£152 delivered to my door!) to go into my sciroccos AGU with the intent of pushing no more than 350-400 torque.

Yeah the 19mm ones you can’t fit as the big end is far too narrow.

I plan on absolutely smashing a set of 20mm ones to pieces, max power and torque possible!

Used and fitted a few. No issues, always well balanced and the bolts come across as genuine.
Maxpeeding sponsor some American race cars ( legit) with good results. Just make sure you’re buying them direct.
ZRP are a great rod if you have any concerns

Did you do some hi end measuring before you fitted them, Mart?

They fall within spec/tolerances and all deck heights measure the same. Bearing/running clearances with new race bearings are good and weights come in within 0.5g.
All parts were washed in thinners and checked for swarf/burrs before use.
All bolts were torqued using an Arp stretch gauge and all went back to their original length.
They look like most generic Chinese rods to be honest. Most failures of the cheap rods seam to be bolt failure initially before the actual rod fails.

What I will say is you know it’s a cheap H beam due to the weight. A fair bit heavier than a 144mm/20mm ZRP I have here .
