Simple question. Do you need longer bolts when changing wheels from steel to bbs ra alloys? Had a quick search but could not see an answer.
Put the bolts through the wheels. They need at least 10 windings to be fastened. As always, longer is better, just don't try to lock the hub to the bearings
if they're genuine VW wheel with VW part numbers on, maybe depending on how old your car is.MK1 and early mk2 had shorter bolts for steel wheels than alloy, but the shorter bolts were eventually dropped and replaced with the longer ones. You can ID the longer bolts as they have the 'castleated' design on the bolt head plus thread is around 23mm long if aftermarket almost certainly ned longer bolts 25mm plus depending on wheel, and you'll probably need taper seat bolts also oh and if you have the dealer fit 14" BBS RA from the accessories catalog these arent genuine VW, for those you need 40mm long wheel bolts
I've jus been measuring up for wheel studs. Fox alloys and 15mm spacers required a 40mm thread length so no spacers would require 25mm thread length. The hub is 13mm so 8.7 turns on an M12x1.5 bolt to fully engage threads (10 turns as said above is a good rule of thumb).
