Not looking to start a debate about wheel sizes etc here

I've got a set of 13 * 5.5 wheels and looking for some tyres that are reasonably grippy / decent for 'spirited' road driving. It's a stock 1.6 auto so the corners are where the fun's at.

I usually run 14s with Dunlop Sport BluResponses on which seem to handle pretty much all I can throw at them. Sadly they don't seem to be available in 13 inches.

    Any suggestions?

Bit more research and looks like there's a tyre called Dunlop StreetResponse 2 in 175/70 R13 size that I might try

Nankang ns2r 185/60r13. These are meant to be a semi slick but really they are a fast road tyre, plenty of tread/grooves. Coincidentally I am selling a set of part worns from my Scirocco that have loads of tread. Pm me if you want more details.

Thanks to @theboysmiffy for sorting me out with the above mentioned rubber. Looks like they'll grip a bit more than what's on there at the moment.

Once the weather warms up a bit I'll get them on and report back [:D]

A539 I used about 20 years ago on my mk2 , were a good tyre in the dry but wet - pretty much useless compared to Good Year F1 at the time

I learned that 185 tyres are fine to put on 5.5 inch J / wide rims which I'm looking forward to seeing.

Also why are tyre measurements not standardised to a single unit or scale [:s]

They are OK on a 5.5 if the profile isn't very low.
You get a lot more leeway with widths, the taller the profile. Also different tire manufacturers have broader shouldered tires than others.
For example, I've cheaper budget 185 60 14s , and Yoko A050s on the same rims, the cheap ones fit perfectly square, the yokes look wider. Same size tire, both on 6 inch wide Compomotive rims.
