I've got my head in the 020 ratio charts and gearing calculators at the moment It turns out that my gearbox has the longest ratios of ANY 020 [:^(] it's a DFQ (anyone know what it's out of?) - It has the 16v size input shaft as a standard KR clutch fits it. Kraftwerk 020 ratio chart Gear ratio calculator
Currently running a 9A engine with 9A gearbox!!I have a spare ACH gearbox, is this with 20mm or 22mm intermediate shaft prefer the higher ratio 5th as its not as high as a 4+E, but with similar ratio on the first 4 ratios as the GTI's.
Long ratios usually equate to a TD box since it has the torque to pull the gears and the wider the better since they dont rev. If you want quick go with my box, I run the 2H. Jasin
Since found out that it's from a mk3 8v /Seat Ibiza GTI my box - DFQ 3.667 3.455 1.944 1.286 0.969 0.805 16v OE box - 2Y 3.667 3.455 2.118 1.444 1.129 0.912 Edited by: G_V_K
Good gearbox for going over to Germany tho *If* and it's a big if you could pull 7k rpm in top with the 0.805 5th gear - 160 mph I've seen 6500 Edited by: G_V_K
So what box ratios would lot say would be good for the track?? Jus interested to compare the ratios i got in the cable change box i'm gonna fit to those you think would be good. AHY - 3.77 2.11 1.42 1.02 0.83 FD 3.94
You've got the right FD with the 3.94 I'd say the 2Y ratios with the 3.94 FD will be good, Bill had those in his old Jetta. Have a mess around with the gear calculator i've posted a link to in the top post - enter your ratios and tyre size and see what it comes up with. Edited by: G_V_K
Did the 2Y come on anything except the 16v? I could probably find one here easily enough, 16v engines are all over the breakers.
I think it was just in the mk2 16v TSC - I've got one outside, it's a bit fecked tho 2nd gear synchro - usual reverse gear chipped (no not REVO'd, APR'd or whatever, chipped as in it knocks as you reverse) Edited by: G_V_K
cool, it doest seem too bad then, i was woried it may be a lttle too low with the 3.94 and the ratios in it. Be limited to 144 at 7000rpm in 5th mind
Most of the ones we get here have been stolen and torched or crashed - a lot of good boxes around last time I looked.
Andy -If you're still planning on going 20vT - remember the limiter is about 7800 on them... (I think) TSC - You could always do a message in a bottle type thing with a 2y box and hope it finds it's way into 'the Wash'. Edited by: G_V_K
You may already have this, but for those who dont this is a very neat wee program from Quaife, a gearbox caluculator, plots graphs of rpm drop etc etc Quaife Ratio Calculator
Lol.... last time I visited a particular scrappy they had 10-12 16v engines and boxes, just lying in a pile. They cut them out, then scrapped the car. If I had those 50mm manifolds now, to sell on Ebay......... I'll ask him next ime I'm up - they aren't worth much to him, as they are too old. And i can get them to Scotland (Troon) for free, so you'd just need one of those "scotch" people to transport them down...... might be doing the same with 2E blocks for 800g's, might load up the passat with bits......
Jetta was flat out @ 135mph in 5th rev limited with 3.84FD on 020 2Y g'box No track in UK had it flat in 5th tho..
