Good point on the output flanges! Some boxes will have the 100mm flanges and allow use of the mk2 driveshafts, later boxes have 108mm iirc and will need swapping for 100mm flanges. Easy to do, its just sorcing the flanges as i think they're fairly pricey from the dealers.
I had the part number for some 100mm flanges somewhere. Will look it out if required.

That is when people have used a Mk2 1.3 clutch cable, but haven't shortened the outer part.
Mine is still on the original 1.3 spec clutch cable (from GSF) that I fitted in 2009.
It's done about 15000 miles, sprint events, track days, few times on drag strip, still working, still light to operate.
    How's that for reliability?

    02A (e.g. as per Mk3 Golf 16v) = 100mm flanges.

Could do 02a with 02j shifter and selector if you can't find correct 02j? Or what boxes had 100mm flanges?

I didn't realise that about the cable.

    Change the flanges over.

My 02J box had 100mm flanges anyway, but probably because it was from the low power 1.8 20v NA ~125hp engine

    Ben,

Do yo have a part number for the 1.3 cable? And possibly a pic of how it fits? I'm dying to ditch my Seat self adjusting one!

    Cheers,
    Bruce

Can't find the part number on my computer or via GSF site, but here are some ebay links:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGE...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43b8f5e917
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Volksw...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ac1a14f90

You can go to / ring your local GSF and ask for a clutch cable for a Golf Mk2 1.3 & it should be ~9.
I will take some photos of how it fits. I posted some previously in another thread but they were taken at night so the dark/flash makes it harder to tell what is what.

    UPDATE

Right then, i managed to source a low milage and clean 02A from Neal H this morning (cheers ), so the 02J is now out of the picture.

It doesn't have any drive flanges though!

I do however have two spare 020 gearboxes. Can i remove the flanges from these and fit them on to the 02A ?

Also, as ive now gone down the 02A route, can i still use a MK4 shifter and cables, or do i need one from a MK3 ?

    Cheers. :)

MK4 shifter and cables fit fine but you will also need the MK4 tower and then no reverse light switch if you are using cable clutch.

Double check there is early and late MK4 shifter, you want late. Early is the same as MK3. And Polo shifter box for straight fit to MK2 tunnel.

    Thanks mate

I'll see what is available out there. I'll probably go for the Mk3 or early Mk4 one then, to keep things simple. ;)

I wonder if my 020 flanges with bolt on to the 02A ?? [:[]..........

The 020 cups do not fit on the 02a box.

The late MK4 (02J) shifter setup feels loads better though. Although if you want your reverse light switch to work and stay MK3 then I would suggest getting on Vortex and US eBay etc to look for an 02A Dieselgeek cable end setup. Only used now, they stopped making the 02A version.

I think GVK managed to get reverse lights working with a cable clutch but it did involve drilling and tapping a new hole into the tower.
Thankfully im hydro as the MK4 shifter & tower is soooo much better!

02J Reverse light and cable clutch should be easy to sort. Will be doing mine this week.
