Possibly. It definately wont fit on the tower i had. Seems like it goes the oppostite side to the normal ones i've seen. I was thinkg LHD at 1st, but only the steering stuff changes. Gearlever stays the same.

A mirror image of whats shown it etka.

    1j0711203D on the lever

The actual number to enable you to order it is 1J0 711 202E

Now you can see my problem. Gonna go for the 'P'. When this goes back later today.

Picked up new relay lever .

The fact that it comes with new Bowden cable catches is a bonus also. So i am now able to convert the earlier ball type shift tower to the later clipped type.

Just waiting for my shifter to arrive and i'll be fitting it soon.

How does the 02A shifter tower come out of the box? Is there a special way of doing it? Does oil need to be drained?

Put it in neutral and undo the 3 (I think) bolts.
It will be a bit stiff as they use liquid gasket (which you will need to get a tube of) but you should be able to crack the seal.

No need to drain but it will be covered in oil on the way out. Dont drop anything down the hole!

Squirt liquid gasket around the hole and drop the 02J in. Make sure the tower is in neutral.
Bolt it up and job done!

Erm. Well i think mine was in neutral:lol:

Doesnt matter that much i suppose, As long as the 'box is so all the plates lign up and you can pull the key on the end of the tower out. If its not in neutral it wont come out or the new one go in!

On the 02J tower there are 2 movements. The weight has 3 positions, Left-Middle-Right. Obviously just keep it in the middle.
The other movement is up & down but this doesnt really matter as you can just push on it when you put it in the box.

Have you read up on how to set it all up once its in? There is a black key on the side of the tower that locks it into neutral. Im not sure about using this when installing the tower but its worth a go i suppose.
You can see the black "L" shape key in this pic (Cheers Funkbarron)

Ok. Can't see how it would work though. Maybe the tower is completely different too.

Oh rite. But it won't be able to be used due to the mounting points for the cables on the box.

What do you mean by fulcrum? If its the point where the bowden cable clip attaches to the centre bolt, its around 45mm.

Sounds like you have the right idea. So its 45mm from the cable fixing to the splined hole where it bolts on? And we are talking centres?

If so I best get one ordered, much shorter than mine!

Thats not an 02j tower. Looks like 02a or early 02j. You show the vw parts catalogue. So that's where you should buy the parts from.

Those pics above aren't what you need, except the TT shifter.

Relay lever comes with the new type Bowden cable clip. Part number has a P on the end. As does the TT short shift. Part number is in this thread. 02j short shift
