I knew you'd get it done before me al. still some weeks off until anything strenuous can be attempted. Did you HAVE to add that nut/ bolt to the housing? Is it loose without it?
To be fair Russ you did go for another project - The attempt to remove fingers which thankfully failed Hope it's healing well though and that theres not going to be any nerve damage? You will need to bolt up-front otherwise it just hangs down. A better alternative may be to purchase the front bracket from a MK2 and weld it in (Was it Matt-MK3 that cut them out and then welded the front one back in?) - I guess this would be a far better and more robust solution. As an aside though and for Matt above the shift quality is steadily improving.
Is there no brackets to bolt to at the front? There are four on the mk3/polo housing. Thought it was a straight swap. Your probably not used to a shift that is tight. (Removed the naughty comparison) Mk3 shifts do tend to be sloppy even with new bushes. Fingers not doing too bad, nerves are ok, as 90% feeling is back. Just have to get k wires removed and wait to get all clear to used the hand fully. Which is supposed to be 12 weeks after surgery.
Hi Russ, Glad to hear the fingers are healing; I'm glad too as I need an ABF-T fix. The housing isn't a straight swap as I found to my surprise and had to improvise albeit poorly. I think it may be bolt-in in a MK2 as it has the front bracket rather than the single front post fitting on the MK3. If I had access to more tools I would have either folded a bracket up from sheet steel which bolts into the top mounting to which the front housing can bolt to or bought a MK2 front bracket and welded it in. Stolen from Mats car thread: Ah found the thread with the brackets: P/N for font bracket: 6N0803875
Great news. I need to get mine on the road to get it to work though before i hammer it on a track day Regarding mounting. I used the Polo/Lupo casing but its still not a direct fit. I had to make a few cuts in the frame and fold it back on itself to keep the strength. Also bore out the holes slightly and pack with some big washers.
TT short shifter Good write up folks! I realise this was a while ago, but im trying to find all these parts. Anyone know the best place to but the TT shifter? cant find a parts contact for audi? found some from the states on ebay but not for 23! Any help is appreciated. And if youve got any updates with how they are running let us know. Cheers fellas!
cheers for the replies. waiting to hear back from dealer. what about the shifter tower? my local scrappy wont let me have just the tower on its own. what has everyone else done? does an 02J box fit the ABF?
02J fits the ABF but you end up with a few extra bolts that aren't used. You will have to search the forums for the tower, they come up on the forums every now and again.
Right fellas, Part numbers have changed so heres whats new... lever is 8N0 711 051 A and to go with it... catch is 1J0 711 761 B washer is N 908 159 03 cost about 36 new from audi.
found my side to side was too long so i made a mod to mine http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?254266-o2j-side-to-side-reduction-short-shift-diy can ajust to taste now
I think they also came from the Arosa/Lupo as well? The one above is a hybrid - MK4 Golf Cables, TT shift weight and all with new bushes.... You could also fit the TT gear lever which is shorter also if you want ultimate OEM! That above is sooo much nicer than the 02M mince I have in the Bora at the moment!
