Progress Progress, lower rear valance replaced with reproduction part that fit very well (much better than the vwheritage wings anyway). Rest of the suspension has been removed as has underseal etc etc. 90% of the metalwork is done. I can't wait till it's painted.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Thanks guys [emoji3] still a long way to go but she's closer than she was yesterday. Here's a bit more work to the chassis leg and battery tray. Next big update at the end of July, should be ready for primer by then.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Update time: We have paint! but not on the whole car unfortunately. There was a fair size bit of corrosion in the bulkhead area that could not of been in a more awkward place which complicated matters. Basically where the chassis rail meets the bulkhead. The amount of scabs around the engine bay area in general was a concern prior to this stage but the entire lower dash had to come out to access it. The location of the corrosion must of came close to seriously compromising the structural integrity of the car.

I dont have a finished picture of the engine bay but it is by far my favourite part of the car so far because it is completely finished and from the way it looked before to how it looks now is like night and day. Really impressed with the work. The inner wings are painted and are also staying on the car now. Metal work is just about finished. Filler and flatting is the going to be the majority of the next update.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Ok here we are and I dare say my mk2 is 100% rust free. You may remember a certain fuel filler bracket that has rotted off 99% of all mk2's ever. Plus whilst work on that was being done it uncovered a bit more iron oxide. Pictures. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Plus filler and flatting work. You may spot an incredibly common BMW CSL there in the background too. A lot has happened in since the last update. Change of job and general unexpected life curve balls that everyone gets at some point.

I very nearly shelved the whole project all together. Come to far to stall or quit now though. I am going to be more hands on now though which is something I've been dying to do. Long story short I want a change of career. Something that I'm actually passionate about. So I've been working there for the past week. Doing the general unskilled side and having a go under supervision at more complex jobs. Bottom picture is me underneath an MG Magnette with a dejected looking mk2 in the background.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I really cant. Its been very tough though to get this far. I peridoically go through phases of 'wtf am i doing!?' and 'I cant wait throw some more money at this to get it done'

Spent another day on it today. Underseal is pretty much done. Also treated the bare metal with some rust converter.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Well things have took a change. I've decided to put the car in storage for the time being.
So if anyone knows of reputable paint shops in the north of england let us know, ta. Oh bonus points if you can guess the car sharing the lock up with my Golf[IMG][IMG]

Great post. I have a 16v from Cyprus with zero rust. No sunroof but factory aircon. Busy ripping out boy racer bits at the mo. Did the same heater repairs as you and complete engine and radiator flush. Think I need a new pas rack or does anyone know if diy rwfurb is possible?

2 gold stars goes to notenoughtime. Good eye sir. The mk2 hasn't completely stalled though. I've got all the parts back now and have plenty of refurbishing to crack on with. I opted against powder coating and instead bought the por15 three stage kit as I havnt seen anything bad about that bit of kit.

Before that though I have been cracking on with thw KR strip down. I was dying to get into it becuase it sounded like it was about to spit out every piston simultaneously. It was amazingly STILL running until they removed it just over 12 months ago. You'll see what I mean when you see pics. The piston is no.4 (small end).

Thank you again for the interest and replies [emoji846][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

If your pas rack is leaking then replacement is the best bet. There are replacement seal kits out there though. Last time i checked there was one still for sale on VW heritage. Good luck with the build buddy [emoji106]
