The brake switch seems to prevent me from removing all the freeplay, I am on the limit and theres still freeplay on the pedal. I wouldnt have known about the adjuster without your post. Beats endlessly bleeding brakes without an outcome : )

Had an awesome day with the ClubGTI MK2 at Lakeside Raceway. It was the first time I've been able to sit at the wheel on a racetrack and while I was the slowest car out there, I was one of the happiest. I took her to 7K up to third @ 140kph for many runs and she didn't miss a beat. Oil temps only rose to 100c after each drag run and later in the day I had a few opportunities to enjoy the corners on the back of the track while trying to catch up with other cars to get some footage. The temptation to get a little turbo into it was hard to resist but in truth, I was so happy with her she put the biggest smile on my face and ran perfectly all day. Took a friend with me on the second cruise to capture the muscle flexing and we had a ball. Strategy was to get up close to the big boys as close as I could to free the track for others behind me and as per the video, there were a lot of AUSSIE muscles flexing their chassis and rods having a great time.

Break adjustment worked a treat and there were a couple of corners where off power oversteer made my mate Graham and I smile. Must get some new seat rail guides, but hey, you know your in a Mk2 when you rock from side to side. She was an awesome little video cam car too, those big windows and her agility helped weave through the procession to catch up with some awesome machines and capture them burn 4x the fuel.

Big thanks to all that helped me get to this point.... Owe ya all big ^5's!

Glove Box - Air Conditioned VS Non A/C

Big thanks to SportsRacer for sending me over a latch clip... Now onto the wonders of it all...

Two piece glovebox for AC in the foreground.

Similar but not quire the same.

The NON A/C version with Latches cut off and good hinges.

NON A/C with Latches in place.

A/C model with most of the inner door cut away (Hinges broken on this)
    20161129_171409 (Large).jpg

I cut away what would be the inner side of the door from the drawer on the A/C version
    20161129_174910 (Large).jpg

Hoping I could attach this to the NON A/C inner door with good hinges. Thinking I could use the inner of the door, the inner box from the A/C and use my existing outer BOX of the A/C. But it didn't work and the inner A/C box was jamming on the outer A/C box

Because the Heater box is much larger in an Air Conditioned version of the 1990, (SWISS) the glovebox is a lot smaller. Not only is it smaller, it's completely different from the non A/C version that SIRGUYDO kindly sent me.

So I spent most of the day with a cutting blade and a dremel hoping to merge the two. The glove box hinges on mine are broken on the inner skin of the glove box door. So with a butter knife I managed to pry apart the outer skin from the inner that has the moulded hinges on it. I hoped that I could swap the doors... Uhm no.... That didn't work as the inner of the door is different and is molded as part of an inner drawer to the outer but I cut away at it hoping it would work and it failed. There was also two hinge latches attached to the sides of the inner of the door that I cut away too.

I then began cutting the NON A/C back all the way, it's actually a two piece box glued together. I eventually removed all the glued part and cut the NON A/C into a simple surrounding framework...

    More Tomorrow...

A/C Glovebox - Gluing it back together

The A/C Box cut down and the Frame from the Non A/C cut down too.

Silconing the door back together, (yes I have the rubber bumpers)

    Attaching the BOXto the lid

I used this Silicon to mount the center Brake light, no double sided on the planet would hold it in place, so should be good for this job too

    The NON A/C Box leftover

With serious trepidation, I resorted to Armourall to remove the fading. I wiped most of it off with a damp chamois to feel better about it.

    Serious?

I went through all that and yours was in good nick??? LOL...

Sell it on Ebay, you'll get a fortune for it if it's an A/C model or ship it to Rubjonny!

Big thanks for the clip, I'll be sending you a gift for Xmas :)

Aqua-planed into the curb - Thanks to Cyclone Debbie

Wasn't as bad as I'd expected. Came down a winding hill and turned into a river flowing across the road and aquaplaned into the curb. New CVs bottom arm, ball joint and brakeline on the way from VWH.

Sad to see, but looks to be little damage.
Is the captive nut still okay, not twisted?

All the nuts and bolts came out true, I was quite surprised so I also loosened the other K frame bolts and they too were true. Impressed by the design and had my head under it long enough and haven't found kinks or chassis damage.

Once the lower arm arrives, I may mig a few beads to strengthen, it's after market. I'll wait for someone with a genuine guard locally and if I can find a lower genuine arm, I'll replace that at a later date. VWH already received order, so now we wait.

2 x Meyle CVs, a brake line and a lower arm and Meyle ball joint to be safe. After market stuff isn't preferred so I do what I can to keep it as best as I can.

    more pics to come..

You see I wouldn't stich weld the wishbones for use on the road. It's designed to be the weakest link in just such an accident. If that was stronger it could have been the hub, subframe or even chassis that bent instead.

Not nice to see but fortunately it looks reasonably minor compared to what it could have been

Thanks Nige, was only thinking of stitch weld because it is aftermarket. I agree with the concept too... :)
