Hello, So I've taken my gearbox off to be rebuilt and I've just bought a new LUK clutch and dual mass flywheel from GSF to put back in as its done about 120,000 miles. On the clutch info its says you need some spangly tool to set the clutch while you're refitting it due to it being self adjusting. Only problem is that the tool costs about 300 ish. If anyone has done this before and can offer any advice on whether you need to use this fancy tool for setting the clutch or if you can use any other method that would be much appreciated. Thanks Doug
I can see no reference to a special tool in ElsaWin, just the usual clutch alignment tool to ensure the friction disc is central in the pressure plate. but it looks to be needed just so that the gearbox will fit, so you can eyeball it as per older kits? does the clutch kit give a part number for this tool or any more info? edit: the vw tool mentioned in elsawin is 3176, as you can see its nowt special, certainly not worth 300 quid: http://vw.snapon.com/specialtoolsdetail.aspx?itemid=27000008
Hi, Thanks for the part number for the aligning tool, I've got one ordered from VW. The part number for the tool that LUK say you need is 400 007210 and it is shown on this webpage http://www.partinfo.co.uk/files/400023710.pdf Thanks for the help so far. Doug
right, vw do mention a procedure for LUK clutches, have a look in my sig 3b3luksaclutch.pdf only tools it needs is a couple of inserts to fit a press, and only then if the adjusters need to be set. accordign to elsawin anyway! for sachs kits there is no need for any of this you cant mess with the self-adjustment
Wow that's great. Thanks for you help with this, couldn't seem to find any other info on it anywhere. Doug
