Never heard of a "factory" fast road cam before.....so tread with caution..... Kent GS2H/TSR 202/Schrick 272 seem to be the cams of choice for an otherwise standard hyd. mk2 GTi
Sounds dubious to me....ask him what the VW part number is. It could be a regrind of a VW cam, in which case it will have the same part number as a standard one. The numbers stamped between the lobes might also give the game away Check what type of lifters it's for too. If it's going in the car on your pic, you probably need a hydraulic lifter cam (?) I've got a std PB cam at home I can check, but not till late Thursday or Friday, as I'm out of the country at the minute.
just got a price of 377 from TSR for a 202 or 203 cam including labour and new tappets (more than i was expecting [:^(] ) he also said it wouldn't be much good without a 4branch manifold? = 264 is it true the cams wouldn't be much good without the manifold? would the manifold alone make much difference?

I've seen a factory cam with over 12mm of lift for an 8v gti. Was found in a John Jones engine a few years back. The profile was huge, and was fully stamped with factory markings.
I would have thought the cam would still help without the manifold, but not as much. What head have you got on it? You can measure the lift on the 'new' cam...it's the length of the lobe minus the width. Ask the seller...for the raw dimensions....be a good test if he knows what he's talking about. Bloody Hell!! Welsh...Unfortunately you really need to do the whole cam/head/manifold as a oner... Each one alone yields small gains yet you will gain 15+BHP from all together & a proper set up of the car..
Right...std PB cam stampings (I think) Starting from the woodruff key end, reading left to right, key facing away (might not be the same on every one, depending on how they locate to machine it. Btwn 3rd and 4th Lobe WTR stamped Btwn 5th and 6th Lobe 002 stamped Btwn 7th and 8th Lobe Germany stamped rotate 180 degrees Btwn 1st and 2nd Lobe AE026 engraved (lightly, in 2 lines) Btwn 3rd and 4th Lobe VW Audi logo Btwn 5th and 6th Lobe R stamped Btwn 7th and 8th Lobe 2 stamped Er That's it Exciting, huh?!
