i have just put my 2e block in my 8v digi, and now the damn thing never get hot! i went out and drove it for at least 30 mins today before switching it off. The MFA says the oil has never been above 82 degrees, and the water only gets to about a quarter on the temp gauge! Its been bled up twice, and the mfa worked fine and read about 96 degrees on a steady run.. it this ok? right? Edited by: drunkenalan
yep, the water temp does go up if its stood still but not by much, take the fan about half an hour to come in
Sounds like you got the wrong thermostat. Did you check the temp marking on it before you put it in? I got one from GSF once that was well off, the car never came out of the white bit at the bottom of the gauge.
Hey guys! The problem could be a simple alternator belt position. If it is in the wrong position the temp will not go higher than 1/4 the way up. You need to make sure the belt is going on the BOTTOM of the water pump. That means the V section ribs ride on the FLAT water pump pulley. I know it seems off but it isnt. -XMechanic
Mate of mine had the same prob on his MkII Cabby with a 2E block. Swapped the thermostat etc, no change. Ended up being a seriously sha99ed water pump. Block was getting hot but there was reduced flow so the rad and the temp sender never got any warm coolant. Check the water pump!!
Mk3 cabby actually mate... Yeah water pump dead so no flow. I should have spotted it earlier as the pump was really loud - can you hear any weird noises coming from around your water pump? Turns out the engine was blody hot, but the sender was cold, so it chucked more fuel in, which was nice. All sorted now though. You should be able to replace the pump yourself - I got a garage to do mine, because I was sick of sticking my head under the car when the coolant is draining!
ill check the water pump but it was new about six months ago on my 1781cc block. Just a thought i have put power steering on for the mrs! have i got the belt setup up right?
Yeash, that is the correct setup, but the new power steering pulley is smaller with the pas than the non pas setup - so is driving it faster - which could be a factor.... Did you check the thermo stat? get it in a pan of water on the hob and boil it up with a thermometer in
ok ill give it ago but the old one came out of my working 1781 block and it read fine Edited by: drunkenalan
It's not good for it long-term to run cold, but you won't be killing it quickly or anything. Have you tried replacing the pump? I can't think of much else that would make it run that cold......
ill do it tommorrow. it does get warm when its stood still but very slowly. its getting on my tits now
