You're absolutely right, but I don't think many people are going to manage to find a set of Recaros for free, or S2 brakes for 10, or a Momo team with boss for 30...
Unbelievable. All the posts you make on forums slating peoples for sale adverts saying they are overpriced, and you pitch your car at an insane 3.5k
Show me an example of me slating someones forum for sale advert? I'm aiming high because I don't really wanna get rid, and the bulk of the price is based on what it's worth if I break it otherwise Close the door on your way out
The sooner you break it, the more money you'll get. Winter's coming, projects are starting. Classic Dubber Maths at work in your For Sale ad though, I have to hand it to you
Similar approach to a converted car, it depends on quality of build & components used. 2 points: Is it precision engineered & well packaged or is it more scrapheap challenge? Is it ready to use & reliable with adequete safety measures & engine cooling, or is a flame proof suit highly recommended? out of 10 (10 being highest quality[professional], 1 being lowest quality [dangerous / bodge]) what would you rate Jolfa's car for points 1 & 2 TT?
The variables are practically infinite here, but what I wouldn't do is: - Add up all of my own perceived values of the parts on the car - Add a chunk of labour on for what was really my own personal hobby time - Try to sell the car at the sum total of the above - Mention a dyno session that occurred 8 years ago Jolfa, I have massive respect for you for persevering with the project, your resourcefulness, imagination and downright stubbornness to succeed, but to me this will only ever be your car. I don't think you can reasonably expect anybody to pay you for the time you've spent indulging yourself in this build. Not at all. Do you think MTM would have asked upwards of 600,000 per car if they had actually produced a series of their Bimoto Audi TT? Of course not. Even professional race-car fabricators accept that a car loses a good chunk of its value when being resold after use by the person who originally commissioned it, even if it hasn't run since it was built. I've lost count of the number of times I've read "you will struggle to build a car of this quality and specification for the sale price" in classified ads for mint professionally-prepped motorsports cars. The Golf is worth more in bits. Almost every modified car is, and I think you know it. Last time I looked there was no crime in making a profit, so I'd say go ahead and get the best prices you can for all the desirable items on your car
Thanks to all who helped, had any kind of useful input, supported the idea, read and laughed along, it's been emotional [][:^(] The end.
That music had me in tears........................................ lol Sorry to see what has been to me one of the most inspirational DIY builds fizzle out [:^(] Still,Chin up lad and can't wait to see your next project
Just read through the whole thread and WOW. Hats off to you Jolfa for your dogged determination and commitment to not only the project but the car in general. I do remember seeing it at Inters and was impressed, now having read the thread I am even more so and I must say have had some laughs along the way. Truly impressed and looking forward to the next one you come up with. Matt
