will any of the polo 5 speed boxes fit the 1050cc Polo 8V engine?

Before anyone says don't bother, it's not a VW application. You'll never guess what it's for ;)

didnt some of the polo coupes with 1L engines have a 4E box? that counts as 5 speed I guess...

The polo square back had the option of a 5-speed not 4+E box, as my sister had one in her 1988 1043cc Squareback. 5th was the same as the 4th in a 4 cog box but with better intermediate ratios so you could shift along quite well.

    Should fit - I've done it on a 1.3.

A 1050cc engine won't pull 5th though unless you lighten the car to something like 400kgs....

    (What are you up to?)

Yes various 5-speed boxes were available on the Coupe, Boulevard, GT and CL versions of the mk2 and mk3 polo. These should all fit.

    Supercharged 1.0 litre perhaps? ;)

    Cheers,

    Drew.

You will probably need the box with code AFA, AYZ or AHZ with 4,267 final drive. Anything else would be a bit OTT
