Im not 100% on boxs but 6 speed uses different mounts etc and flywheel is different iirc

Why not change the diff in the box itself

Are the 6 speed actually higher geared, I have no idea, but it can be just to have closer ratios, not a high geared top gear.

first 5 are about the same 6th is higher and there are a few different final ratios giving 25mph on the top end might not sound much but from 130 to 155 better mpg

the easiest one is probably the 02S, its a 6 speed version of the 02J and found on MK5 golf, A3 etc after 2005ish. You would need to send it to hotgolf/Martin Emment/gas n gears to have the casing swapped as the 02s has no speedo hole. plus holes missing for mk2/3 engine brackets, but that probably wouldn't be a problem for you as IIRC you've got MK4 brackets right? Just need find one with decent gear ratios, what code was your 5 speed again?

the 02M from the MK4 Golf are much cheaper and easier to get but would require different driveshafts, plus the clutch & flywheel differs as well.

ok have a look in here, got some good bits n pieces. theres a big chart of 02S ratios as well:

compare what your EVS code has to what you would like, if you look at the scirocco.org gear ratio calculator that will help you get your head round it (link in thread)
