Could someone tell me which cars had these as opposed to the 42mm ones? Are they before/after a certain year? Or is it pot lock?
It's definitely an age thing; I know the 90 spec cars came with 50mm manifolds. I think the information you're after can be found here, makes interesting reading
I though big inlets were on early valvers myself- hence the lack of torque vs 8v complaints when they were new? Over the years I've had '87 with 50mm, '90 with 42mm & '88 with 50mm, but never known if they were original or what. '90 Corrado KR has 42mm on anyway.
My old '87 registered 16v (that had a 86 date stamp on the head) had the small 42.5mm that is on my car at the moment - I'm putting a 50mm on any day to see what gains or not it'll give. (Going to Stealth next Sunday)
GVK, i believe its everybody's wish, that you post up some diferences between them! I have a 86KR that came with a 42mm, and my friends 88 and 89 KR came with 50mm
If you are after one to go on your Mk1, then don't use a mk2 16v one, the linkages are on the wrong side of the body. I visited the breakers until I found a 5cyl audi estate. It had a 52mm large TB and I matched the manifold to it. Very simple job. MC
Stealth have got my plot when i had a 41mm on - now i have the 50mm. Am going to Stealth next Sunday too - so hopefully between us we will have the definative answer on the manifold issue ............................................................ ..........then again i'm sure the topic will come up again Edited by: Nurburgring
Got around to fitting my 50mm inlet manifold today, want to see what gains if any it offers over the 42mm I've had on the car since I fitted the 9A. Old 42mm Old inlet off and the flowed head still looks nice and smooth Bling! - A mixture of black basecoat and some Nissan gold as we had ran out of VW Schwarz metallic they normally keep in work for when I scrape or bend something - where I masked up the DOHC 16v to polish the flat surface the masking tape pulled a couple of bits of laquer off..grrr Fitted Going to Stealth next Sunday for the VR6 OC RR day, so will report back with the findings of the dyno runs - it's louder so it's GOT to be faster - right?? Does ECU have to match the size of inlet also?. It will be intresting to see the results of the change of size.
I've got the early ECU from the '87 16v on mine Dave, according to Vince @ Stealth, the early ECU doesn't retard the timing at 5k like the later ECU does. Will post up the results after next Sunday's RR day.
For future reference, gaskets needed to swap the manifolds are 027 129 717F (between the two halves of inlet manifold) 037 129 717F (head to manifold flange) 037 133 037A x2 throttle body 027 906 179A (cold start housing flange.)
Yep, two pack basecoat and laquer, the rocker cover has been done the same and that's been on since the summer time.
