Ignition timing on the car is about the max it will go without pinking, so no, other than changing cams etc no other way of increasing the power.

no one ever thought of making a variable inlet manifold for the 16v. I know it a completely different engine but the MK4 VR gains 38NM of torque @ 3k with the manifold apposed to without the change over barrel, gains start at 1k all the way up to 4k.

dont know the stats for the early VR

Do you think the idea could be adapted to suit the 16v????????

Good idea in theory Daz, but how you would actually go about it I don't know [:s]

HiDRO - This is the results from my car and engine, and what works or doesn't on my engine may work or not on another similar engine.

Tub, you've got to remember OUR ENGINES ARE DIFFERENT ;)

I've also been thinking, when I thought the 50mm gave better performance over 5k, it's more to the point that it's slightly worse under 5k now than it was that it seems to go better over 5k

It still drives better than with the Schrick cams so I'm not too bothered.

50mm is a 1.8l manifold after all, it isn't supposed to work on a 2.0

All of the manifolds were on the 1.8 as standard at some point though. I have a Jetta 1.8 16v engine thats standard and came with the 42mm!
