for the better or for the worst? I expect with all that extra wheelspin it understeers like a greasy pig?

Chris, yeah, as I explained to you yesterday (but for the benefit of other) to 02C is a syncro box. basically an 02A, but with the bellhousing and diff that allows an angle drive (transfer box) to be fitted, for a propshaft and the subsequent 4wd.

I take it we are talking about cable change boxes but do they have cable or hydraulic clutches? as i want to fit a six speed cog box to my mk2 2.0ltr 8 valve but dont want the hassle of having to convert to hydraulic clutch.
Are there any boxes that you can change the gears over so you have the origanle 5 speeds then the new 6th in the 6 speed box casing? or is it just case of trying to find a box with ratio's some where near?

The hydraulic lcutch is easy, just fit a passat pedal box and drill 3 holes in the bulkhead to mount it, and either use the proper brake fluid reservoir or run a seperate pot for the clutch. cable shifter mech botls in east too.

Whhhhyyyyyyy??? Please someone explain to me why you would want to fit a 6 speed box to a Mk2 8v they have a wide powerband. Its pointless. As for keeping the original 5 gears and adding a 6th to it... again... WHYYYY? Its not going to be able to get up to those kind of speeds anyway. Not sure exactly about the ratios in a Mk2, but my Mk3 topped out 5th at over 130, you're not going to be getting any higher than that in an 8v.

Cos the topic was started with a question about a six speed cog box on an 8 valve and my 8 valve is still pulling at top speed. ;)
Its torque that makes the go not bhp. :)

Thank you for saying it, so i didn't have to. Well high speed is power unless, you're doing high speeds at extremely low rpm's... but i think we all know how futile that would be. Heh... but i could see some torque freaks trying it.

You don't need a 6 speed, just get the final drive right.

right there paul but with 6 spd you can have great acceleration AND quiet cruising

You don't need a 6 speed for that, just a long 5th gear.

yes, maybe, but if you get the other 4 gears right it doen't matter. You're never going to use top gear on a circuit anyway.

    yeah

depends on the powerspread some cars will keep falling in the hole on the motorway with a long 5th

with your vr don't suppose it's a problem, however my 10k 6spd box cost less than a rebuilt 2y so what the hell, it'll do me
