    Hi guys,

New member here. Thank you for having me

I have recently purchased a 7.5 GTI Performance (Picture attached). Currently in love with the car and the way it drives.

I am currently considering the exhaust system that is on the car. Mine is a March 2019 registered car, with the only options being reverse cam and keyless entry (I believe all ‘19s were optioned like this as standard)

Is there any way that I can tell if the car has an OPF without putting it in the air? Are there also any recommendations for specific exhaust for my car? I don’t want the car screaming but a bit of noise on the downshifts wouldn’t go far amiss

I am also considering an immobiliser for my car. I am based in Birmingham where car theft is quite common. Am I taking enough of a precaution with faraday pouches for both keys and turning off keyless entry every time I leave the car?

Final question. I am currently 21 (going 22 in October). I am currently paying circa 1600 per year for insurance via a mainstream insurer. Are there any speciality brokers I can contact to get a better quote on my insurance?

Thank you guys in advance for any help you can send my way

    Welcome
    The picture hasn’t worked unfortunately.
I can’t tell you much about exhausts etc but I can comment on immobilisers and insurance.
A tracker with remote immobilisation is better. You can install it yourself if you have a little wiring knowledge or get it installed by a car audio shop or mobile electrician. Yearly fees are as little at £60 and will allow you to track the car or immobilise it from anywhere in the world if you need to, plus a host of other functions.
For insurance you could try Adrian Flux or Brentacre who are specialist/modified car insurers. However, I would say that £1600 at 21 on that car is not bad.

A word of caution on insurance you get what you pay for. A cheap quote might appeal but may well be difficult if you need to claim. Immobilisers where you have to have a key to place in a receptacle before trying to start the car are a bit of a faff. They are for me anyway.

Thanks for the advice on immobilisers. I didn’t actually know you could get them wired in and controlled on your phone.

The main one I was told to look into was an Autowatch Ghost. The cost wasn’t much of an issue, but as Steven mentioned above, the faf of putting in a code every time I wanted to start the car really put me off putting one in my car

Completely get what you’re saying there. Currently paying for an Aviva policy, fully comprehensive.

I’ve never been one to scrimp on insurance. I’d rather pay a bit more for peace of mind. I think my choice of words was a poor in my initial post.

What I ideally was after, was a competitive quote of someone who understands the sort of car I was insuring. If I was to potentially mod the car, (more cosmetics and sound for me) I’d like to be able to explain what I’m doing and for them not to hike the prices up for me exponentially.

Thanks again for the tips on immobilisers

I previously had a Mk7 GTi PP. I paid €400 for the clubsport back box direct from VW and it was hands down one of the best mods I have done to a car for the money. It added the perfect amount of volume to both the exhaust tone and to the DSG 'farts'. Wife approved also, i.e. she never even noticed [:D]

Not sure though if the Mk7 CS backbox will fit a Mk7.5?
