    Hi all

Thought I'd share this nuggett of info with all you VW owners.

Now it maybe common knowledge already but,

I received my CSMA news letter magazine the other day and in the letters section there is one stating that VW are giving 7 year warranty on electrical windows !!! Its all to do with the plastic clips failing. VW are aware that its a design flaw, and instead of changing the part design they have decided to offer 7 year warranty on elec window related problems.

My girlfriend's Golf had this problem last Nov and ended up paying 150!!!

    Hope this is of use.

    Regards

    Steve

Does the warranty cover if the elec window related problem isn't to do with any broken clips? Say, for example, a fried motor or dodgy wiring.

just the regulator failing, normally just the clips breaking

Funny I should stumble onto this thread today, as my girlfriend's passenger window on her 1.8t MK4 GTi broke yesterday!

It broke with a loud crack and got stuck in the down position, but we managed to help the window back up so just one of the plastic clips must have failed.

I spent ages on the phone to VW service yesterday, and the upshot was that they were keen to make a 25% "goodwill" payment towards the repair, but there wasn't any mention of the extended warranty... am I being told porkies?! With the discount it works out at about 150 as mentioned above.

I bought the repair kit (that they had on the shelf in parts it's so common!) last night though, so was planning to fix it myself tomorrow with the guide from VW Vortex - shall I push for the warranty instead? Car is 2002 reg, so only 5 years old...

    Cheers!
    Tim

Quick update for anyone reading this sticky and having the same problem - I fitted the repair kit last weekend in about 2 hours from start to finish, thanks to the excellent guide on vwvortex- so I recommend doing it yourself if you're feeling handy!

I just used the 2 clips that hold the glass from the kit, as all the cables and the cable reel were fine.

At least this way you can be sure that the dealer isn't going to chew up your door card!

Anyone know if this applies to the whole of the VAG range? My regulator failed on my Leon a few months back...am waiting for the drivers one to fail as we speak!
